Friday 4th March
Off to Langkawi today.Really looking forward to chilling and having Tour Guide Vicki with us is a bonus! Lol. Vicki has been to Langkawi so many times!
We are staying at the Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa. The hotel and resort is located on the beach front. We arrive by taxi and the entrance/foyer is gorgeous. It's all dark wood with lots of sofa and dark wood furniture placed around a centre bar.I can see the pool also.It looks lovely. We get our room keys and wander around the grounds. Our room is very spacious and has a nice balcony.Henry and I are going to enjoy this weekend - total relaxation!
Within 5 mins of being in the hotel room Henry finds a leaflet on all the tropical animals and insects on the island. He is not impressed at the number of deadly spiders on the island lol! Vicki has suggested a nice German Restaurant on the beach. It's called the 'Beach Garden resort & Beergarden'.Vicki suggests the steaks as they are fabby - good choice - very tasty - I actually think it is the best steaks Henry and I have had! After dinner we take a walk along the beach to a beach bar called 'Café Babylon'.It is completely different to anything I have been to before.Everyone is sitting at rustic wooden tables and sitting on mats on the sand. However, it is very busy so we can't get a seat here.We go up to the main bar area - we manage to get a log seat at a low, sunken wooden table.Bob Marley is playing the background and everyone looks stoned! There is not much chat here as everyone is chilling (stoned!) but it still manages to have a great atmosphere. We stay for a few drinks then head back to hotel as we are getting invaded by cats!
Sat 5th March
Lazy day today - chill by the pool.Pool time - beer time - sun time!
Tonight we are going out for an Indian Meal. Yum! On the way we go to this beach bar called 'Little Lillias'.It was really nice just sitting on the sunken chairs in the sand watching the sunset.Cocktails I think! The beach is full of local people (this is the time they all come down to the beach to play football, swim etc). There are a lot of people parasailing. We watched in horror as one girl came crashing down and had a bad landing. There are a lot of people attending to her.I think she must be really hurt. She has to have a few bones broken at least as it was a hard landing. They send her off to hospital.
Indian Meal was fantastic - the restaurant was called 'Pappadam Ria' would completely recommend.Away back to hotel as we have a trip booked for tomorrow so up early!
Sunday 6th March
Vicki takes us for 'roti canai' breakfast on the way to start our tour.It is kind of like a crepe/Indian pancake served with a curry sauce/dip.It is delicious. You must try it.Henry and I order more! YUM
We arrive at the jetty to start our day tour. The tour starts along the mangrove river. It is so nice being out on the boat. There is only the four of us plus the tour guide. Firstly we arrive at the crocodile cave - we do not go in as it's high tide. The next thing along the mangrove river is the eagle feeding. This is fantastic to see.We can see around a dozen of them flying above us.The boat stops and we put food in the water for them. They one by one fly into the water right next to us to collect the food. What beautiful birds.
Next stop is the fish farm.Everyone is fascinated with the 'archer fish'.They spit at bugs and flies etc out of the water so they will fall out the sky and into the water so the fish can eat them.Very clever! The tour guide puts a little bit of bread on the side of the fence and they all spit at the bread thinking it is an insect and it falls off into the water.Henry puts the bread on his finger and above the water and one jumps out and takes it off.
We travel further along the river and get to the bat cave.I'm scared already lol.As we walked in there was an awful stench. You are given a torch so you can shine it on the bats to see them as it's pitch dark.A few started flying about and I was out of there! We then left the bat cave and had the last part of our tour was a fast boat ride along the open sea around one side of the island. This was amazing. You got to see so much the further out you went.We then got dropped off at 'Tanjung Rhu Beach'.The boat drops you off right ON the beach, you jump out of the boat into the water. This beach is breathtaking. You will see from some of my photos. The sand is so white and lovely warm clear waters.A swim I think! On way back to hotel we stopped off at a Turkish restaurant called 'Turkish Delight'.The boys got a mixed kebab - it is massive and everything tastes so good.Would recommend.
Tuesday 8th March
Henry and I decide to go into KL city to explore.China town first I think. It was one large street with lots of food stalls and clothes stalls. You can buy any designer clothing here (it's all fake of course!) but some of it is really good quality.Hen is very tempted lol.We go down a small side street into the fish and meat market. It STINKS! There are whole fish, fish parts, fish getting gutted everywhere. We then get to the meat section.God, some of the stuff is yuk but we keep going as I aint walking past all the stinking fish again. There are some chickens in a cage. They slaughter them to order in front of you.I think the chickens know what is going on.They all look really disturbed as the women gets another chicken from the cage and chops of it's head on a chopping board ON TOP of the chicken cage! AAAAHHHH those poor chickens must be petrified.Out of here I think.
Henry tries to follow a map but then we give up and follow the signs to 'Merdeka Square'.This is such a lovely and open space. There is a flag of independence.Im sure it is supposed to be there highest flagpole in the world???Maybe. We walk through the square and head to 'Little India'.Me and Hen can't wait as we have been looking forward to eating here all day.We pass food stall after food stall. But what one do you go to? We eventually stop and get a chapatti each, chicken curry, dahl curry and rice.It smells delicious. We attempt to use the chapatti to scoop up the food (like the locals do), but we give up and use a fork.Off to the 'Petronas Towers' next.We can see them in the distance so just start walking towards them. You can only go up the towers at a certain time off day so we can't go up.We take a few photos and head back to Vicki's for our last night in KL.Shannon is putting on a BBQ - YUM! Going to miss them both a lot.
