Wed 21st Dec - Landed in Lima about 2pm...I´ve swapped timezones again coming from Brazil to here so keep losing myself a bit! At the airport I spot a girl by the luggage carousel who looks like a traveller so I say hello and see where she´s heding to..it turned out she was staying in a hostl only a couple of blocks from hostel so we shared a taxi. We met back up after we dumped our stuff and we went off to the Monastry of San Fransisco and the catacombs. The monastry was pretty impressive but the best bit was going down to the catacombs (kind of graves) under the building. It has all been excavated and you go through the tunnels to eac room and its full of bones and skulls..so so strange to be surrounded by real human bones in piles - they are from all of the monks over thousands of years, and still to this day if a monk dies they are buried andten dug back up after they have decomposd and the bones added to the catacombs!
We also went to the main square to see the tow hall and Peru´s version of buckingham palace..they have guards in strange outfits and do changing of the guards at midday. I have taken lots of photos and will et round to doing them at some point!
The hostel is prety quiet and i´m the only person that seaks English..made frinds with some guys that work there and a Chilean guy and started on the Pisco Sours..the local drink. They let me make my own, it has lime juice, pisco, egg white, ice and cinamon on top..they´re yummy and very alcoholic.
Thurs 22nd Dec - Got up for breakfast and got chaing to Renan who offered to take me to some of the places in Lima that are good to see. We went to the love park..which is more a chunk of grass with flowers and a tatue of 2 people making out and not really a park. But a small area of grass here seems to constitute as a park! We also went to the beach and had luncj over looking the sea which was cool. In the afternoon we went to Pachamamac which is just outside Lima, we went on local buses and I was the only gringo (white person) on any of them and eing blonde stuck out even more haha! Anyway Pachamamac is an old temple- temple du soleil which is in desert terrain and you could look round the ruins and walk upto the top which was quite high up the mountin type thing (good inca trail practice). The views were awesome!
A guy called Ceasar who worked at the hostel taught me some salsa moves (very basic and im not that good) but I learnt some then wen out with hte guys to a salsa club with a live band..the couples salsaing were soo good, I was enjoying watching them more than participating but I gave it a good go!
