I´m in love...with Rio! I have had the most amazing 6days here. There is so much to do, eat and see!
Lets start with all the partying..went out every night to something different..
beach house party - an old house that overlooks the sea with a balcony and glass walls had been gutted out, put in some DJs, set up a bar and thats about it.
Lapa street party - this was crazy..they close off loads of streets in Lapa and then everyone drinks, dances and congregates in the streets. At one point there were loads of us dancing under an old bridge to drum players. loved it! then there were loads of stalls selling food and drink!
Samba school party - amazing night. We went to a samba school and they did us a run through of their routine for carnival..was amazing! Never seen people samba so fast!! Then we danced the night away to samba music..I would say we samba´d but I don´t think what managed would constitute as samba haha!
favella party - this was a party in a massive warehouse type thing in a favella! Crazy times.
boat party - we got t0old this was one of the best parties to go to in Rio.. so we get there and its literally a smallish boat with about 200 people on it.. there was a bar where you first got on and the rest became a dancefloor. And it drove off out to the middle of the sea whilst we partied away. There were no high railings or anything (def would be health and safety issues in UK haha)
The drink of choice in Rio is Caprinihs...cruvaca and fresh lime juice..thats it, so you can imagine how strong it was! Its the best drink ever.
Anyway I did actually do lots of other things beside party! I went on a favella tour, which was cool. you get dropped at the bottom by a bus, then get on the back of a moped to go up to the top. when we did it there was a massive thunder storm, thunder lightening and sooo much rain was a bit scary going on the back in those conditions in flipflops, vest and shorts! Then with our guide we went through all the favella and saw how they lived. The favela´s are known for drug and weapon crimes and make about 8million pounds from drugs each quarter!! You also hae to be careful as there are lots of guns and home made bomb things around..and literally about 10mins after our guide told us this, there was a massive bang and all this smoke pouring out a building like 10m infront of us! We went into a local artists and saw his studio and art.
I also went to see the Christ Redeemer statue which is famous in Rio, it´s sooo big, can be seen across most of Rio. Being next to it makes you feel so small. Next went to Santa Theresa which is really pretty and there are these famous multi coloured steps that were amazing (obviously had the obligatory photo on them). Went up to the yop of the sugar loaf mountain on some cable carts..I wasn´t to sure about these but a guide told me they were made in Switzerland and only 5 years old so I manned up and went to the top! The view of Rio was immense from up there.
And of course I went to the beach..was very sunny. It´s so picture perfect - golden sand, blue sea, mountains in the background, little islands just off the shore.
And visited a hippy market..which wasn´t as exciting as we thought but heyho!
Anyway love to everyone xx
