Hey everyone
I'd like to apologise for not checking in with you all sooner, it has been far too long since my last update, but quite frankly i have been having so much fun i just haven't found the time.
I'm now into the last 24 hours of my 11 week and 4 day trip - and what a trip it's been! It has gone so so fast it's untrue, and i can't believe i will soon be seeing the ma and pa at Heathrow airport, banner in hand and de-lousing spray at the ready!! But before all that, i'll give you a brief overview of what i've been doing in Thailand.....
After meeting Snins at the airport, we headed off down to Phuket. After getting off the plane and getting in a taxi to Phuket town, the taxi driver informed us that all the bars where in Pahtong, so we turned around and headed there. Pahtong is a very sleazy, very "Magaluf" type place, with bars, clubs and lots and lots of prostitutes. This was really unfortunate, and all the advice i'd been given about this not being the "true" Thailand was completely justified in an instant. However, we did manage to avoid most of the sleaze and met some really cool people. Spent most of the days sleeping, and all night partying, so in terms of culture there was 0% (but there is no culture there anyway!!).
After 3 days we headed for Phi-Phi, my favourite place in Thailand. Amazing beaches, no cars, and just a chilled out vibe met us. For 3 days we were sat on a beach, and for 3 nights we were sat in beach bars. It was brilliant. Managed to do some more scuba as well, which Snins joined me on. Hippies and Apache were highlights for those that have been, and the reggae bar was our warm up everynight with the Thai boxing.
Next was Koh Samui, and the arrival of Ben (the Hen!!). We had been told Koh Samui was like Pahtong, but i didn't find it nearly as bad. It was very "Magaluf-esque" though, but was suited to us partying hard each night. We played some golf football in Samui, on probably the hottest day ever. After 3 holes we knew it was a bad idea, but we struggled on to hit respectable 78 (Snins), 82 (Me) and 83 (Ben). It was basically a football instead of a golf ball, and you kicked it instead of hitting it with clubs. VERY FRUSTRATING!!!
After Samui was Koh Phangan, and the full moon party. We were here for 6 nights, and the build up to the party on the 31st was by far the more enjoyable bit than the actual party. 20,000 people on abeach though was some sight, and with glow paint, buckets of alcohol and house music, it was a fantastic time for me! I LOVED IT!!! We partied very hard, usually getting in about 6ish, and hitting the beach about 2/3 in the afternoon.
After here was Koh Tao, the diving mecca of Thailand. We did a dive, and Ben came along as well, but the party wasn't really doing it for us so we decided to head back to Bangkok a day early, which is where i am now. Since being here we have been to some Wats (temples), the zoo, and the Grand Palace. Haven't enjoyed Bangkok as much as the rest of Thailand, as it just feels like everyone is out to rip you off!! And the polution is horrendous. But Kho Shan road is the place to party so we've not changed that habit at all.
And in approx 24 hours i shall be flying home, back to you all to tell you all my tales! It has just flown by so fast. I don't wanna leave, but i am looking forward to getting home, i must admit! Asia is definately somewhere i want to explore further though. The people are amazing friendly, the sceenery is beautiful, the food is to die for! But its all about getting some money togther now! Ha Ha
As this is my last blog, i just wanted to say the best places i've been to. Fraser Island and the Whitsundays in Oz were brilliant; Phi-Phi and Koh Phangan were amazing in Thailand. The factor that makes everything what it is though is the attitude you have in approaching it. If i wasn't prepared to chat to people and socialise in Oz, i would never have made any friends and i would have hated it. If i had spent the whole time in Thailand planning what to do and where to go, i'd have forgotten to actually have fun in the palce i'm in! Snins and Ben have been great in Thailand, and everyone i met in Oz was pure class! I've made friends that i will stay in contact with, and the friends i already have, i think, become more closer than they were before!
Travelling has been the msot amazing experience ever, and i have learnt loads and loads. But there is a whole world out the that Chris Fender needs to see, such as South America, the rest of Asia, Africa and Europe, and maybe even the States!!! So i have no intention of stopping now. But before my mum and dad pass out in fear of having to bankroll me for the rest of my life - which they've done pretty much for the last 22 years anyway - i won't be doing it anytime soon (or at least in the next month!!)
Love to all, i'll see you very very soon, and i can't wait!!
Ciao, Fender xx
