Gooday Bruces and Shelias!!!
So, i've moved on from Cairns after spending many drunken nights out. After getting over my jet lag on Tuesday, i met these two guys Sam and Johno at my hostel. Having chilled out and grabbed some dinner, we headed into Cairns about 9ish. Went to a bar called the Woolshed, which is essentially a backpacker bar - cheap food, cheap beer, and you can dance on tables! Score! So the three of us did a bit of a session on the VB (Victoria Bitter) and were steaming by about mid-night. Popped round to Rhino Bar where Johno took it upon himself to request a shot that would "destroy us" - Captain Morgans it was, and after already having had a few sherberts, this truely was the cherry on the top. Got into bed about 3, but had a great night.
Wednesday was spent feeling rough, sleeping a bit, and just relaxing. Weather hasn't been great, but i decided to book a day's diving on the reef. So, once this strenuous task had been completed, met Johno and Sam and guess what - the beer began flowing (Sam and John are Gloucester boys, so it was cider for them). We hit the town and got onto a thing called the party bus - essentially a pub crawl around Cairns but you are taken around on a bus! So on we get with 100+ other backpackers (majority English) and the night begins. Finished off in a club, met loads of guys and girls, and spent my walk home trying to find a place that did chips cheese and gravey (to no avail!!).
Up at 6 for the day of diving. Got to Port Douglas at 8ish, and was on the sea by half past. IT WAS ROUGH! And with the added pleasure of beer rolling around in the old gut it didn't make it any easier. However, with a lot of tea, coffee, sandwiches, and water, i got through it. I had booked for 2 dives, but in the end did all 3. It is so surreal being underwater and breathing. Was an amzing thing to do though and would recommend it to anyone. Saw a reef shark, a sting ray, an eagle ray, a sea turtle, loads of nemos - it was class. I've got a DVD of it so once i work out how to get it on here i'll let you know so you can watch me in action.
Got back to Cairns about 6ish, and just passed out in bed. I think jetlag grabbed me because i woke up at 4am having missed the entire nights festivities, and hadn't even showered after coming in from diving - i just fell onto my bed and, bang! i was out.
So woke up on Friday a tad annoyed but determined to make up for lost time. Johno and Sam had met a couple of their mates, Lewis and Craig, and once i was filled in with the previous nights stories (Craig pulled a fat bird so we called him Buffalo Bill, and Sam pulled a 32 year old mum who was keen on biting him, so she was Nibbler!) we went out into Cairns. As it was raining (still!!!!!) we watched the new Prates film, had some grub and went out about 9. Went to Woolshed, but the lads wanted to hit the casino. I wasn't really keen so stayed on in Woolshed by my lonesome for a bit and headed home about 12 to pack. I'm finding the whole "on my own thing" quite cool, but Friday night was an example when it sucked.
So, up at 6am (again!) to get the OZ Experience bus. Met two girls who i'd gone to Uni with, Steph and Flick. Very random. Made our way down to Mission Beach via a Croc farm where we had our very own "Steve Irwin" wannabe. I've got some pics and videos of it, so i'll add them when i can. The guy showing us round got me up at the end to "turn me into a proper Aussie bloke" - whatever that means?? Well, it actually means that i had a snake shoved down my top, and then down my shorts, in front of about 15 people. So there is me sh*ting myself, whilst Mr Aussie is having a right old laugh. Then a girl from Denmark, who i had never met, had to reach down my shorts and grab the snake and pull him out - see the inuendo there?? Yeah great fun Aussie man, BUT THERE IS A LIVE SNAKE IN MY SHORTS SO JUST GET IT OUT SO I CAN ENSURE I WILL PROVIDE MY PARENTS WITH GRANDKIDS!!
Anyway, so once Dingo, or whatever the snake was called, was safely out of reach of my manhood, we were back on the bus and onto Mission Beach, which is where i am now. So i guess your up to date. I haven't got loads of photos, but will put some on for you anyway when i can.
So tomorrow (Sunday) i'm doing my skydive from 14,000ft which is gonna cost me $300 for the pleasure - really can't wait. Gonna have some beers tonight though to help me calm down a bit.
Thats it, speak soon and love to all
