South East Asia Adventure
Despite sending several bits home now the bags were getting heaver. Not fun as Jude's back was still bad and I had to carry both backpacks and my small rucksack. Just before we left I nearly knocked myself out and had blood pumping from my head and dribbling down my face. I was determined to get that bus so I was drinking 7up to keep the blood sugar up to stop me fainting (for those that don't know it was a favored pastime of mine when I was younger!). My head stopped bleeding by the time we got to the bus station thank god - but Jude promised to not let me sleep on the bus and she managed to keep me awake all the way there -it was about a 7 hrs journey.
The weather was clear and as we climbed the pass through the Andes the views became stunning. We crossed the border just over the peak. This was our first border control with both countries sharing the same building.
It was relatively painless and we had our bags x-rayed but didn't have our hand luggage searched. We have had hand luggage searched before now. Looking for fruit etc.
When we arrived at Mendoza we booked our onward tickets to Buenos Aires. First class no less and only about GBP 7 more than the recliner seat.
We arrived at our hostel, which was lovely and went out for a walk to get a feel for the place. Mendoza is the heart of the Wine growing region and during the Summer months they have free entertainment in the Square and on the night we arrived they had street performances from acrobats - who were great - it would have been better had we been able to understand all the chat that was happening at the same time.
They have the most enormous drains here - see the pics. Also some great old cars, we had seen plenty along the way but the ones in Mendoza looked like they were fit to drive on a road.
Unfortunately, Judes back got worse and she was bed ridden the next day. We had to get the doctor out who prescribed powerful injections which I had to administer as the nurse was closed and our cleaner who did the first one but went home after lunch. I did a couple of the injections and we had some x-rays done and the doctor told us she had done no permanent damage and we decided to leave the following day on our overnight bus to Buenos Aires - Thank god we had booked first class!!!
Let me tell you they need these types of Buses in the UK - they would be full going up and down to Scotland everynight!! Especially with the full shock absorbers and it reclined as flat as a bed, just like BA first class I am told - not that I have ever traveled this way on a plane.
