The adventures of Feather
Things are looking up, i have eaten! went out last nite to Shibuya and had the most incredible meal. Upon steppnig out of the metro station i actually heard myself say outloud- oh my god! i have never seen anything like it -huge huge huge skyscrapers covered in flashing lights and screens, music blaring out everywhere and thousands and thousands of people swarming like ants, its just like nothing on earth, apparently is where Ridley Scott got the inspiration for Bladerunner and i can see why, it felt like i had stepped forward several decades, half expected some cars to be flying overhead!! the contrast to the little very old town
area in which i am staying where no one speaks English and i have to go to Starbucks to eat something- i am ashamed but it was only my first day!! anyway Shibuya was full on, full of teenagers in long socks and crazy hair, swarming in packs with mobile phones attached to their faces. dodging the crowds Louise took me to a fab restaurant, course after course of sushi and fish chicken and soup and bread and icecream, hurray! no longer starving feather!was highly impressed when i got to grate my own wasabi- never done that before!anyway ate loads, all you can drink too and then stumbled off to a cool bar and stayed til 4am! sorry mum and dad!lots of beautiful people...thanks to Lou for showing me a great nite out! and with inspiration i now have the strength to buy food on my own! i have eaten twice today by pointing and nodding, sat in the imperial gardens eating my bento box and was so proud!today has been a good day and have done loads- been to Ueno to look for the Japanese elvises they werent there but i found beautiful shrines where locals out money in ring a bell, bow and clap! huge lakes full of fat coy carp and had a wee in a funny toilet i had to squat over but which washed your bottom afterward!then headed to look for the Imperial palace where the Emperor lives but couldnt get close-he is far too important to be a tourist attraction apparently,, anyway saw Tokyo tower from there and then headed off to Ginza which is an enormous shopping area- it makes West End London look like a village- its breathtaking! Went into the Sony showroom and spent an hour playing with gadgets that arent even released yet! Portable DVD player for Xmas please, nearly bought a beautiful purple MP3 player but stopped myself- this is hardly necessty on a backpacker budget! anyway i am managing the tube system ok and loving the music they play at stations and crossings and the little children slying staring at me and giggling- no pants werent stuck in my knickers Nadia. Japan so far is a massive culture shock and such a contrast-saw a lady today in beautiful geisha style outift eating drinking a can of coke. cant believe they sell beer in the vending machines can you imagnie that in England...more sightseeing tomorrow, planning to get up early and go to the fish markets- been told to wear old shoes as apparnetly there is a lot of "stuff" on the floor- mmm fish guts at 7am, lovely. will put photos up when i work out how- computer here all Japnese script to bit of a challenge!
