Tomo was our guide for the day today. We went to Tokyo and, without knowing it, pretty much ended up on a mission to eat in as many different restaurants and try as many new foods as possible! When we got to Tokyo we looked in a few shops and then went to a noodle bar for some lunch. The noodles here are really long and thick, probably as thick as worms! The culture in Japan seems to be to do everything as quickly as possible, including eating! Tomo showed us that the Japanese way to eat noodles is to swallow them without chewing and just let the slide down your throat. Faz and I decided against trying this as we didn't want to burn ourselves.
Tomo then took us to a shrine for Emperor Meiji in the middle of Tokyo. He was apparently the first emperor to introduce parts of western culture to Japan and the shrine contains barrels of sake along with huge barrels of very expensive European wines. Before we could go into the shrine we had to wash our hands with holy water.
Tomo then took us to a Turkish mosque which was located in Tokyo and the Parliament buildings (where I was cheeky, and touristy, enough to ask a policeman if I could have my picture taken with him!
We then continued our food tour in a part of Tokyo where tJapanese businessmen go to unwind. Tomo explained that in Japan the wives pretty much wear the trousers and Japanese men are given 1000 yen a day to spend, that they have cheap lunches and then spend the rest of their yen on alcohol in this district at the end of the day. The district has lots of ourdoor bars, some of which had upturned beer crates for tables, which sold kebabs and alcoholic drinks only.
After some drinks and food we went to a Kubuki Theatre to watch a traditional Japanese play, none of which I understood! Then we finished our food tour in a Chinese restaurant, which was completely different to the places over here. It was like a meze where you get lots and lots of little dishes to share, all of which I tired and most of which I liked. Tomo wanted to take us to another restaurant after that but we were all too full and decided to call it a night!
