Hello All,
Fay and I have just about come to the end of our seperate projects in Uganda so I am sat in an internet cafe in Jinja waiting for her to arrive on the minibus from Entebbe.
My firsat week was spent mainly spent trying to get things going - often a frustrating experience - especially when the school has lost its only ladder and replacing it involves cutting down trees. Anyhow, I eventually got the main school building painted and it certainly brightens up the place! (Will add photos when I get the chance). I have also seen the new library and it is very impressive so many thanks to those of you who helped me raise the money for it 3 years ago.
At the weekend, I headed over to Entebbe to see Fay and we had a delicious meal followed by apple crumble - made a nice change from the posho + beans and old army ration packs I had been eating at the school!
Last week, the new 'AVs' (Africa and Asia Venture gap year volunteers i.e. me 4 years ago) arrived at the school. Fortunately they have let me stay in the AV house and I have had fun showing them around the schools and villages and giving them lots of hints and tips on things to do and ways to make the best of the experience.
The plan for the next few weeks goes something like - a few more days at the school for painting and teaching, 1 week heading to Eastern Uganda to visit Sipi falls and for me to meet my sponsored child near Tororo then finally 1 week of R + R on the (hopefully) beautiful Sesse Isles before heading back to Nairobi to start the overland tour.
We have both kept reasonably healthy and are having a good time.
