We left Koh Tao just at the right time, a storm was on its way in! unfortuantely this wasnt good for our over night boat journey that we were getting on. When we got on the boat we knew it was going to be a long night, there were mattresses but the were thin and damp! never the less we settled down to try and sleep only for the storm to start 2 hours in, Rain was pouring through the windows and cracks in the boat. It was never going to sink but thats not what it felt like, even an overdose on sleeping tablets couldnt help any of us sleep. So we were more then releaved when we stopped in the morning and got back onto the mainland.
Koh Phi Phi is a very small island just off of the mainland Krabi. It was devastated by the tsunami a few years ago and was still in the rehabilitation process. Once again though we had arrived on an island more beautiful then the previous. Koh Phi Phi was also very small and actually has no roads! The only way to get around is by bicycle or by walking! When James and I arrived we didnt know this but soon found out when all the locals were looking at us funny when we were asking for a tuk-tuk or taxi!
We had traveled across with what we now call our 'traveling family', James and i, Tom and Darren (North London lads), Hassall, Banim, Joe and Paddy (Scouse lads), Andrea and Julie (Irish chicks) and also Joe and Harriet (portsmouth). It was also time for the arrival of Rob who had come out to see us for 1 month.
The idea of Koh phi phi was to get in as much sun time as we could during the day and to party as hard as we could at night.
The party started in 1 of 3 main bars in the small street area, Dojos, Reggae bar or Irish bar and moved onto the beach in the early hours of the morning.
Theres not really alot more i can say about this island unfortunately, i spent most of it either drunk or hungover!!
On the odd day that i woke up feeling fresh we walked up to the 2 viewpoints, these viewpoints were the best we'd seen on the islands and also gave us a chance to see a few wild monkeys, they didnt seem to confident with humans so we only got a quick look before they ran off back into the bushes.
We also got a chance to go on a booze cruise around the other small remote islands around Phi Phi which basically consisted of a beach and that was it. After experiencing alot of booze cruises in Greece and Spain, the booze cruise itself was the worst one i'd ever been on and hardly anyone actually ended up drinking,. We did however get the chance to see where the film 'the beach' was filmed. We could go and walk around the places where the sets were but a football got chucked onto the beach and instead we had a massive north of england vs south of england game :) south of course ending up winning!
The only other thing that james, rob and i managed to do was abit of cliff jumping. We decided to go and unfortunatly couldnt of picked a worse day, the sea was very rough and it was raining. We didnt want to pay to go on an organized trip to the cliffs so instead set off in a little taxi boat. When we arrived the waves were nearly cap sizing the boat and the little thai man just pointed to where we had to jump off. Now we expected that there would be steps up to the points to jump and maybe a sign saying where to go from.. not in thailand. We had to climb up some jagged rocks in flip flops (apprantly the tour supply shoes and gloves) while the waves were battering us. This was hard enough in itself, but when we got to the edge all of us lost out bottle. It was alot higher then it looked from the boat and you couldnt see if there were rocks underneath, i was about 20m up and the boys were about 15-18m up. So going on what a thai bloke had told us i built up the courage to throw myself off followed shortly by the other 2. The adrenaline was amazing and heart was proper going. Because of how hard it was to get back up we only had the one go but it was well worth it!!
So after a solid week of drinking we were back off to another full moon party!
