FARFRUMWURKEN
Our first full day in Cancun was a success. Beyond a brief stopover from a cruise I never realized that Cancun was so impressive. The main mission for today was to get to the ADO bus terminal and purchase our tickets for the 3 1/2 hour bus ride to Merida.
We took the local bus (R1) into the city of Cancun which was a total of 12.50 Peso per person. Not knowing what to expect the main branch of the ADO was new and a little to my surprise was totally organized and very efficient. We needed to get reservations and a space on the Platino bus to make sure that we had space on the bus. The price for this trip was $625P or about $37.00US.
Once that was done the girls needed to scout out the local silver shops in search of just the right piece. Deborah, Angie and even Terry were successful with their purchases - all good deals as compared to US/CAN pricing I'm sure. After negotiations were complete, the shop owner walked us to a nearby restaurant for lunch. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of the pappas/French fries but I can only say they were some of the best I've had in a long time.
The weather while we've been here has been in the 28 to 30 degree range but with great ocean breezes so it's been pretty good, but still hot. Once we returned to the hotel, we all made a B-Line to the hotel pool. It was a great decision to break-up the trip for a couple of days R&R in Cancun.
We had agreed that 10:15 was departure time for the ADO terminal in town, so things went very smooth and we were there well in time for our 11:45 departure. This is the nicest bus I've EVER been on in my life. It has all the amenities necessary to make the trip a relaxing one, including full-reclining seats, personal tv, free juices and privacy cabins that make it very classy. I only hope that when we arrive in Merida things go as smoothly.
