Well first of all i want to say Rest in Peace to all those girls who died on sat night, the photos are horrific and i cant believe its happened. unfortunately out here they dont exactly respect the dead and photos have been printed of the dead girls bodies. they didnt even have the decency to clean their faces of blood. i dont know whos seen the pics but the bus was torn apart its scarey. but please dont worry any of you, so so so many buses pass through there everyday and nothing like this has happened before, in future i will tell you exactly where im going so you guys dont worry (nana, mum and dad in particular thank u ever so much for waking me at 5.30 am when i had just got in and fallen asleep!)
Well i went to the best place in the whole wide world and that is not a joke!! i shall start with friday...we went to work in the morning as always and they after sooooo much faffing and deciding where to meet we eventually got off the trole at Cumanda which is a big bus terminal. someone who got off at the same time as us...a well dressed man in a suit about 35 years old ...i was minding my own business trying to work out how we were going to cross this busy road when carla whispered in my ear "that mans flashing at us, shall we laugh at him and see what he does" i turned around to see nothing, only the man holding a newspaper in front of his...you know....AREA i said back to her "no hes not hes just going for a piss....oh no his not..." i think u know what i mean. we all felt very sick for a good few hours. i mean who would do that in the middle of a busy street?! INSANE!! the day got so much better after that, couldnt get much worse!! we got on the bus and headed off to Atacames, a beach resort town. very nice i must say, just 8 hours away!!
we arrived at 11.30 to try and find a hostel, we showed up at one which was $5 a night, didnt have a working light, no toilet roll, hot water (even tho it was advertised to have hot water) the beds were dirty and it was a bit of a way out!! we thought if the lady went down to $4 we would pay but she refused so we left in a huff. thats how stingy we ahve got...for the sake of 50p!! but we found hotel galeria and we paid $3.50 a night for a big room, on the beach WITH soap and toilet roll (a total luxery here!!) so that was our home and i am def staying there again! so we dumped our stuff and went straight out. we looked ROUGH, i had my scraped back, jeans and a t shirt on...to go partying, oh how things have changed!! we found a bar with swings in and loads and loads of cocktails...also, manuel this really really cool (no other word quite describes him) guy who is from jamaica i believe...awesome dancer and mc-er!!the barmen there were also sound. we met a columbian called arturo who told us where to go in columbia...very helpful!! anyways the barman introduced us to Romano who was going to teach us how to surf the next day. you can imagine what i was like...trying to remember all these names...there not english aswell so i was having serious difficulties...still am!! so we partied on into the night, a big big big bottle of beer cost the equivelent of 40p!! needless to say we were worse for wear!! we danced on the beach (which is apparently really dangerous unless your with an equadorian but we were so its all gooood!) got in at 4...and got up at 8. i was soo impressed with myself. although i did it in napa so dont know why i was suprised!! Atacames is seriously my dream place everyone wanders about in boardshorts with their surf boards, u dont have any annoying english people, burnt (minus me who didnt put suncream on to start with...i dont know what i was thinking) being rowdy or wearing their england shirts, everyone is so laid back, no-one really works, just surfs, all the bars are on the beach, they have hammocks and blaring music, usually playing bob marley or somethin along them lines....i think im going to move there
the sat we sat down the beach all day, drinking pina coladas and batidas which are flavoured milkshakes i guess is the best way to describe them!! they are amazin and only 80p. ate a lot of fish and prawns. a meal here costs $1.50 and you get a massive plateful of good food, i am not going to be able to adjust back, specially london prices!! killer...
Romano didnt come over to us, how rude...parently he saw us but thought we didnt actually want to learn. i have no idea why he thought that!! so we just chilled out in hammocks and drank a fair amount!! we were in and out of the sea all day, my first time in th Pacific :) was perfect!! we went swimming during the sunset and it was just beautiful. the beach is so funny you get people coming up to every 30 seconds asking if u want to buy this or that. we were offered coke and weed within 10 mins of being on the beach!! me and carla bought coca juice from a boy street vendor (coca means coconut not coke by the way) only to later be told that the waters dirty so the panic of having the s***s again set in...we were lucky!! we were approached by a guy who wanted a photo with us, we said no of course, but he wouldnt leave, literally wouldnt leave 20 mins later we were still trying to get him to leave. eventually we gave in and said fine. he then ran over to his friends and they all came and sat in on this pic...the word losers came to mind!! charley i thought maybe they were playing pull the minger...will serve me right for being so mean in the first place i guess!!
that night we actually had a shower, put make up on...the lot!! stilll wore jeans tho...despite the fact it is ROASTING there. emily wasnt feeling well so she stayed in and imogen ended up going in early which was a shame but i had an awesome night still!! we went to some bar where they was a dance off for boys on the bar, some of them were amazing dancers...some of them just fat drunk old men!! the winner managed to aplit his shorts, i was amused!! and then later on in the night they had one for women!! the people here can really dance, especially the men who can really move unlike home!! will be weird going back to dancing in english clubs... well we went to a few bars, had a good night, ended up at the bar with the swings and danced on the beach. this was when we met fay, the ecuadorian national surfing champion so we sat chatting to him for a few hours, jamie joined us as did romano, was a cool night. fays competeing next weekend in Montanita so were heading down there to watch him, should be cool!! Again got in at 4 except this time i was woken by panicked parents thinking i was dead. what a lovely call. managed to get a bit of sleep but missed the sunrise which had intended to watch...devo!!
didnt spend as much time on the beach as sat tho, mainly as we were all burnt...mainly me!! we still went on the banana boats tho and just generally chilled out with our pals!! sun night all the bars are closed so we sat in an empty bar and did nothing all night was so much fun tho. we spoke so much spanish with the guys which was mega useful, much better than quito where they just speak english to you. got the bus home at 11.30 last night so as u can prob guess i was knackered for work this morning, so worth it tho, we had the best weekend ever!! im going back in may with imogen, jamie and shona when the others are at galapagos. totally cant wait!!
hope everyones ok and not too worried. i miss you all xxxxxxx
