This morning we were up early to find the inside of our bedroom window was thick with ice. We didn't hang about getting dressed and grabbing some porridge before setting out on our aclimitisation trek to Nangkar Tshang, a small hill behind the tea house which is 5100m high or if your old school 16,732ft.
The climb of 900m vertical metres took up 3 long hours of puffing and panting but we were rewarded with stunning views and gin clear skies. The clouds and helicopers were below us.
To reach the summit we had to climb over an 18 inch ledge with a vertical cliff to our right, scary stuff for a monday morning!
The climb back down was quicker and easier but heavy on the thighs and knees. We are now chilling having had spag bol without the mince.
At 3pm this afternoon some English doctors who are staying here are giving a talk on the effects of altitude on the human body so for the first time in many years we'll go to a lecture.
Just outside the tea house is a memorial with the names of all those that have known to have perished whilst attempting to summit Mount Everest, a chilling reminder why we will turn around at base camp!
