So after two days of Spanish classes I'm beginning to understand a lot more of what people around me are saying but it's still quite difficult to keep up!! My Spanish teachers are lovely, both speak very little English so I'm being forced to use my Spanish all the time when I'm at school which is good, if a little frustrating. At the rate we move through things I hope my Spanish will be up to scratch pretty soon.
The weather here is quite bizarre, it's boiling and sunny until about one in the afternoon, then all of a sudden the skies open up and it rains heavily for the rest of the day. I had to go and buy an umbrella today after getting caught in the rain walking home yesterday! It's interesting seeing how expensive or inexpensive things are here, my umbrella cost about $3USD whereas a casado, a typical Costa Rican lunch costs about $7USD, still pretty cheap, (especially for the amount of food you get!) but comparatively it seems a little odd!
I've been finding it quite weird seeing what people here perceive as being necessary versus optional. It seems everyone here has an iPhone and iPad, but very few homes have running hot water. Being a plumber's daughter I'd say the inability to have a hot shower is the thing I'm finding most difficult! That and remembering that toilet paper can't be flushed down the toilets here!!
All in all, so far I'm finding this an incredibly interesting and slightly challenging experience. I'm definitely enjoying my Spanish lessons but really I can't wait to begin my volunteering placement in San Ramon.

Jean McVerry Hi from jean
Billy Hi Darling What an awesome thing to do. I can't believe Chris knows what a Costa Rican football team looks like. Are the photos posted of where you are staying. Tried to viber you this morning but problems with how it is set up. Also tried to skype you but no able to also. Took nannie to see ron yesterday she was shocked but he is alot better than he has been. Moved to the departure lounge now so it wont be long till he is back in Karaka. Conference finished yesterday, now hopefully some work will eventuate. Everyone i tell about your travels is not just jealous but sincerely impressed with your commitment to help and improve you Spanish. It had better be good in 66 sleeps as you know you are chief interpreter negotiator. Its bloody cold here so am really looking forward to some heat. Love Dad
ewright9 Hi daddy, yup the photos are of the block the house I'm staying in is on, it's a bit difficult to take many photos as it isn't particularly safe having cameras or iPhones out on the streets here. Spanish is slowly improving but it's a lot harder than I thought it would be! It's pretty humid here so you'll definitely get some heat in Peru!! Hi to nan for me, love u, Ruby.
ewright9 Hi Jean, hope everything is well with you :)
