So after Washington we headed to Greensboro on the train which we nearly missed and had to run for, they are really efficient at leaving on time, although i dont know why as you always get there late! They are quite frustrating trains as they go so slow and you feel like you are never getting anywhere!
When we arrived there we got a taxi to our hotel and the guy didnt know where it was, which was a good start, its in a kind of complex on the side of a busy road when we eventually got there and got out he told us to be careful and not to talk to anyone or walk to far away and then we checked in right next to what looked like a big drug dealer guy - great! ( I didnt tell you at the time Dad so you wouldnt worry anymore than you probably already are but we are away now and Im still safe)! With this in mind we didnt really go very far, it had been a exhasting few days so we were glad of a room just for us and had a huge bed each and we just watched Tv and went swimming and ate pretty much, except on the last day we went and watched Hancock at the cinema which was pretty good! The Italian we went to a couple of times also had huge portions, have a look at the pics!
When we went to leave to get our train we got to the train station with our tickets dated 8th July at 0022 and the guy kindly informed me that at midnight the date changes ( really? i didnt know this) and we had therefore missed our train by 24 hours, we had wondered why we had arranged so long somewhere with nothing to do! We managed to get on the train though so just laughed it off and then slept the whole way to Atlanta. The night train was even better, we got extendable footrests and a pillow and everything, they then ask where you are getting off so they can come and wake you so that they dont have to announce over the speakers and wake everyone, good eh?!
When we arived in Atlanta we knew due to not knowing what day it was that we now only had one day so had to make the most of it! We were quite lucky as we had booked two nights at the hostel and they still just charged us for one, that was where the good stuff ended though! There were bugs in the shower, the decor was minging, the internet had no USB points and my blanket was so minging Craig wouldnt allow me to sleep with it so he gave me his! We were only sharing with one guy though which was ok but it did have a dog awww! We went and asked about The Dr Martin Luther King Jr Visitors Centre as this was all we really wanted to see here, the hostel guy told us how to get the subway and to be careful as its in quite a dodgy neighbourhood so off we tottered again but it wasnt too bad and we found it quite easy to get there, just a few guys playing basketball and some old black guys on a corner but nobody said anything or that to us, I think people like of over exaggerate, one guy even said "Howy'all doing?" which was more than anyone even said to us in Montreal or New York. At the centre there was lots of information and quotes and things on Martin Luther King, it was quite interesting, although we did feel a bit like people were wondering why we were there but everyone was really friendly, we also saw where he was born and where he preached, its actually quite unreal how it was only 40 years ago that black people and white people were not allowed to mix, we were quiet sickened by it all.
After here we walked back to get the subway and had a look around the Olympic Park beside the Coca Cola Museum and the Georgia Aquarium, they had fountains that all the kids ran through and sometimes they stopped and played music and the fountains went in time! It was roasting and we could hardly stand to be outside so we just went back and had some dinner and packed up our bags and were gald again we only had one day as by 8pm we were contemplating going to bed as we had done everything we wanted to do, so we just had an early night for our train ride the next day to Sweet Home Alabama!!
Hope everyone is good!
Lots of Love
