We've been taking it really slow and easy here in Amsterdam since we have so much time and not that many things on our To Do list.
Wednesday we slept in (again! yay!), Winn went to have brunch with a business contact, and then we all met up at the Amsterdam Museum.
We spent a couple hours exploring this awesome museum. If you ever go to Amsterdam, go to this museum. It's only 10 euros and totally worth it. It's one of the best museums I've ever been to. Their interactive and highly modern, technology-driven displays are so impressive. My dad and I went to to it in 2009 and I was really glad we went again. They added a new exhibit called Amsterdam DNA which was so cool. QR codes are used throughout the whole exhibit to let visitors hear the correct language at the video/audio displays. Diaramas with 3d holographic videos integrated into the sets. Tons of interactive displays that visitors can play on, touch, really get into. Lots of monitors with videos that start when you pick up the headphones. And the walls are covered in infographic-like information that guides you through the whole exhibit, from the 1200s to today. SO COOL.
And that's just the top floor! Then you have the "permanent" exhibits which includes a LOT of art and relics but also lots of interactive displays too.
Afterwards, we walked to Central Station and took a train out to den Haag. We were planning to meet up with some old friends of my dad's, who I apparently met many years ago at DefCon. They wanted to take us to a local music festival. We got to their part of town early, so we walked around the main square, listening to some of the music, trying to find some allergy/cold meds for Natasha and finally settled on a pub for a drink.
We went to their house at 7 and hung out for a while, catching up and playing with their precious angel kitties! Two of the most beautiful white kitties with piercing blue eyes. So sweet. :) They're in the process of toilet training the kitties and plan on breeding them eventually - the male is on some kind of kitty birth control now! It was wonderful getting some kitty love since I miss my Cosmo so much.
We headed to the festival, which was fun! Sangria, salsa music, a weird steampunk dude riding around in a giant bike like contraption, and beautiful weather! Aronund 8:30ish we finally decide to get some noms and end up at a place that was doing quiz night, so we end up sitting at the one the street tables. It was fantastic. Drinks, delicious food, a nice breeze and wonderful discussion.
But finally, it was late and we had to catch a cab back to the station so we could catch the 12:23 train back to Amsterdam. I think we all passed out pretty quickly when we made it home.
It was a great day!
