Our last day à Paris. C'était un peu triste. :( Mais je sais que je vais revenir plusieurs fois dans ma vie.
Winn and Natasha headed down to the Banque de France to deal with the money situation and we planned to all meet at the base of Sacré Coeur, at the funicular, at 12:30. Adam and I head out at noon, metro-ing up to Montmartre.
Once W and N showed up, the "kids" walked up the hill of steps while Winn and I waited and took the funicular. Once at the base of Sacré Coeur, we took a ton of pictures. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, the tourists were everywhere, and the street performers were entertaining everyone. It was the perfect afternoon. Not too hot, a nice breeze, everyone was being super friendly and nice (of course, some soldiers were walking around with giant guns, so that probably kept anyone from causing trouble, just like at la tour Eiffel).
Sacré Coeur might be my favorite church building. It's just gorgeous and so different from the rest of the churches in the city. It's not very old - it was finished in the 1860s - but it's just so pretty. We couldn't take pix inside (or wear tank tops!) because it's a sanctuary but the ceilings and the stained glass rival that of Notre Dame, à mon avis. (Though Notre Dame is probably more impressive in size and scale simply because of when it was first constructed.)
I waited down by the church while the others climbed to the top - I've done it before and my knee/hips were really bugging me. I didn't think climbing another 200+ stairs would be good for that. So I hung out and watched the little concert that one of the street musicians was putting on - he kept pulling audience members to come sing the songs for him. A German girl did a decent rendition of an Adele song, and an Australian girl sang some other current pop hit.
The this guy started doing his act and we had to watch because it was just incroyable!
We meandered around Montmartre for a bit, I allowed myself to be touristy and pick up a few things (much cheaper in that part of town than others) and then we walked through the Pigalle to see le Moulin Rouge.
The rest of the afternoon was spent packing/cleaning/tidying up and then we went to this Uzbekistan restaurant my dad really wanted to try for his belated Father's Day dinner. After dinner, we went back to the English bar that Adam and my dad had spent quite a bit of time at in the last few days to watch the English/Ukraine game, but the bar was SO crowded, we had to stand in the doorway! But the bartender saw the guys, and immediately brought them pints of what they'd been drinking. Now that's service!
Natasha and I went back to the little crèperie on our street, where the guy running it calls me "Princesse" and liked speaking in a franglais with me, and then back to the apartment for more packing, winding down, photo uploading and apparently watching Oliver and Company hahaha. But then we got hooked on watching Sexy Dance 2 (also known as Step Up 2) which I'd never seen and we stayed up until the guys got home. haha. It was a fun, easy, relaxed night. :)
