This morning, Adam and Natasha left at 9 and headed for the bus station to catch a bus to Bruxelles and then a train to Brugges. I'm a little jalouse that they get to go to Brugges. I've only seen the movie "In Brugges" and have only ever driven through Belgium, and yes I've heard how boring Belgium can be, but that city looks so adorable. They're staying in a cute little B&B and I instructed them that they needed to take as many pictures as possible!
My dad and I left around 10:15 in a cab and took it all the way to Disney. It was expensive but I was super stressed about trying to take the RER out to Disney with all of our bags! (We each have a GIANT heavy suitcase, plus a carryon, plus I have my camera case and my big tripod bag, and a messenger bag. Getting all of that through the RER was so stressful that I actually worried all night about it! So I said I'd pay for a cab. It's a business expense, right? :) We did come out to Disney for work afterall!)
The hotel we're staying at is called the Newport Bay Club. It's very odd walking around a Disney themed hotel in which everyone speaks French. It's like the French version of America. (Though I suppose that's what it must feel like at the Paris hotel in Vegas.) The rooms are BIG and American sized. The AC even works. It's not at all like a typical French experience, which is somewhat offputting since I'm in France and all but I've gotta admit, after sharing such a tiny space with three other people for five nights, it's MAGNIFIQUE to have my OWN room with TWO double beds and AIR CONDITIONING and A NORMAL SIZED SHOWER and MY OWN BATHROOM and SPACE TO SPREAD OUT. lol. I'm going to enjoy every second of this American-themed hotel - including watching six episodes of Friend en français since every time I turn on the TV, that's what's on (though I did catch two eps of Modern Family en français plus tôt).
Everyone involved with the conference is really friendly. We had a little cocktail hour to meet and greet all the staff and speakers, followed by a dinner around 9:30. I had a great time chatting with some guys from Argentina, Poland and Germany - that's part of the fun of a European conference; there is a wider representation of different nationalities (obviously with French being the majority). Lots of very interesting discussions.
