Iraklion / Chania & Reythmon
Gee what a couple of HUGE days, Abbey and I arrived to the hustle and bustle of downtown Iraklion the capital of Crete, after walking from the port we found our accommodation which looked great after spending a lifetime on a ferry, well almost. We got our car dropped off to the hotel after spending 3 hours looking for the place, the stupid morons at the car rental joint put the incorrect address and map on their website "super" happy about that!!
We spent a morning walking around Iraklion which is a cool town then we walked I swear 6km to see the end of the venetian fortress along a path into the sea, but we needed the exercise in the 37deg heat.
I can see why there is a death a day on the scooters in the Greek islands, the drivers are mental!! Bloody hell I felt like a nana driver, b***** all lines on the road, no speed signs no nothing, just everyman for himself!! Combine this fact with driving on the "wrong" side of the road and you have an experience ( near death?).
We headed up the coast of Crete to the province on Chania (Xania), it is beautiful , beaches the people wicked!! We stayed in this hostel on the edge of town run by a Greek / Canadian bloke. Our which was pretty good was not ready when we arrived so he insisted we do shots of Raki with him, my god it's like fire water and they were not small shots. That night we went into old town of Chania and had dinner and drinks by the water, loved it!! I'm running out of words to describe how good things are!!
The next morning we went for a drive down to south west coast of Crete, along the way we stopped at a churched carved out of a mountain which was pretty impressive to say the least. Next stop on this road trip was to a monastery that overlooks the mountain, sea and river and was used as a hideout in many of the wars, umm bit of a let down after payin 4euros to get in we only stayed 10 mins, oh well not like I will be in this next of the woods any time again.
Next was Ephanisis, wow what a cool place, the island can only be reached by the small sand bar you walk across or by boat and waters are so blue and clear the photos don't even do it justice, such a cool place.. more to come.. out of time on this computer..
Footy scores!!
