This morning we took a side trip to Pisa. There we took some pictures with the leaning tower and got something to eat. It is a very touristy area, but taking the stereotypical propping up the tower picture was a lot of fun.
After about an hour, we got back on the bus to go to Padova, where we visited the church of St. Antonio, the patron saint of lost things. Next to his tomb are all sorts of pictures and offerings from people hoping to find family members, pets and other lost items. Also in the church are Saint Antonio's preserved tongue, mandible and vocal chords.
When we left the church, we got back on the bus, this time to go to Venice. When we reached the mainland, we had to take a ferry to get into the city of Venice and then walked to our hotel with all of our luggage.
We got settled in our new rooms and then went to get something to eat. Alexa and I went to a cafe near our hotel. She ordered a delicious looking pizza, which has a thicker crust and more cheese than the pizza you find in Rome and I had pistachio gelato, which may just be my favorite flavor so far. Thanks to Doug and Joe for introducing me to it.
After dinner, we took a tour from Piazza San Marco. Venice is beautiful at night! We walked along the canals and through the square, where several of the outdoor cafés had bands performing. We were all so exhausted and there was a curfew at the hotel, so we made it a fairly early night.
