Hey Everyone,
We are now in Taman Negara National Park in Malaysia but before we talk about that we need to rewind to the Perhentian Islands where we went after Penang... The journey started with a very bumpy speed boat ride from the main land, it seemed to throw us all over the place and we were thankful for the life jackets we had on. The boat took us to the small island and we got off at Long Beach. After searching around all the hostels and chalets and stuff we were forced into accepting a realy rubbish room because all the the others were expensive or booked up. It was a big room but all it had was a bed and nothing else and the shared bathrooms were pretty horrible. Once we'd got our stuff in the room we spent the rest of the day on the beach. The sea was really nice, it was completely clear and you could go our quite far swimming in it, which was good and kept Elisa happy but the beach could have been a bit cleaner. In terms of scenery though it wasn't anywhere near as good as Railay or Phi Phi. Another plus was the really cute monkey that lived at a restaurant at the end of the beach, Elisa wouldn't leave it alone and wanted to take it home with her. The day after we spent another day on the beach and then decided to move to the big island to find some better accomodation, which we did. We got a room for the same price but much better. The sea wasn't as clear but it had its own section of coral on it that went quite far out till it got deep. Even before we went snorkelling in it Elisa saw a Black Tip Reef Shark and a Ray of some sort. After seeing these we got ourselves a snorkel and mask and went off to see what we could find. There were plenty of fish including clown fish and as we went further out we saw ther sharks again, circling around on the bottom but the Ray had swam off somewhere else. The day after that I (Tom) started my Advanced Diving, which was really good. On the first day I did two dives, saw loads of fish and Hawksbill Turtle. The second day I did three dives, first one was a deep one down to 25 metres, second was a wreck, which was really interesting andon the third one I saw some rays, including a big one, which was buried under the sand. The day after Elisa joined me to do some fun diving, Elisa liked seeing the teeny tiny clown fish, which looked cute. She wasn't sick for any of the diving either. Yay! A few nights before we left, I woke up in middle of the night because I felt something scratching my head. I turned on the light to find a cockroach on my pillow and another one next to me, realy freaked me out. The rest of the night we slept with the light on so they wouldn't come out. A few mintues after something else fell on me and I jumped up out of bed but it turned out just to be my phone, which I'd forgotted I'd put above me a few mins before, Elisa seemed tofind this hilarious. We did one more day of fun diving and then decided to head to Taman Negara, which is a national park and is the oldest rainforest in the world being a few million years old.
The scenery on the way here was really beautiful, there were rows and rows of palm trees and huge hills that the road wound up and down. We are staying in a village just across a river from the park entrance. This morning we went for a walk in the rainforest, which lead us to a canopy walk, it was realy good but we didn't see any animals unfortunately but fortunately we avoided the leeches, which a few people seemed to run into. Tonight we are going on a night safari, where hopefully we will see some leopard cats amongst other things. Tomorrow we are heading to the Cameron Highlands to chill out a bit in the hills before we go to Kuala Lumpur.
