Hey everyone,
We are now in Singapore, only been here since yesterday and we're leaving tonight but we wish we'd had longer. Elisa didn't want to even come here really but she's really enjoyed it. Last night we went down to the Esplanade and the River, and everything lit up looks beautiful. They also have really cool archictecture including a building with three towers and what looks leike a boat on top. It's a hotel, casino and shopping centre, and the hotel has (or will do, not sure if it's finished yet) an infinity pool on top looking over all of Singapore, views would be stunning.
Earlier in the day yesterday we went on a walking tour of Chinatown, went into a Chinese tea shop, a traditional Chinese medicine shop (we got free tea in both the tea and medicine shop- we like a freebie), loads of handicraft shops and a Chinese Buddhist Temple. The Temple was stunning and by far the best Chinese temple we've seen yet, it even had a museum upstairs with loads of Buddhist artifacts as well as the story of THE Buddha. After Chinatown we went back to Little India where we were staying and did a little walking tour there as well, saw a Hindu Temple and Mosque but it wasn't as good as in Chinatown. Chinatown and Little India are both so clean compared to what we've seen of similar places already (like Chinatown in KL, Penang and Bangkok, and the real India), SIngapore in general is just spotless pretty much. Like I said that night we went to the river and saw everything lit up, we also went on a River Cruise, which was nice as we got to see more of the riverside. There are loads of new bars and restaurants next to and sometimes in old buildings and the mixture is really good to look at.
Today we decided to go back to the river and see it by daytime, it's not quite as impressive as at night but still good to look at. We wandered round Clarke Quay where there are loads of restaurants, bars etc. the view from the outside seating areas is really nice and the places themselves look good, if only we had more money! We walked down to the Singapore Flyer (their version of the London Eye) but decided not to spend the S$20 to go on it. Instead we went to the three-towered-boat building and the mall below it. Had some lunch in the food court- they do really good curries here! We also thought about going up to the Observation Deck but that was even more than the Flyer so decided against it. After that we went to MRT to come back to the hostel but not before dropping by the Raffles Hotel, which was very posh. Next time I come here I think I might stay there.
At the moment we're just getting ready for our flight to Darwin in Australia. We've got to say goodbye to Asia now but we're looking forward to OZ just hope we don't get too lost in the campervan.
