Hey guys,
We haven't been at a computer for a while so sorry for the lapse in bloggage. I can't even remember where we left it off, I think it was Udaipur...
Our second day in Udaipur we didn't get chance to go on a boat ride because it was way tpp expensive, 550 Rs! Instead we played more cards with the English guys, had a wander round Udaipur, ate some food and didn't do that much to be honest. It was nice to chill there was quite laid back compared to some of the other places we've been.
The train journey to Jaipur was pretty uneventful, we met some Americans and had a chat with them. Just before the train arrived one of the men who hands out sheets came round telling us it was our stop and then wanted money from us for 'waking us up'. After a few mintues he realised he wasn't getting any so decided to try and wake up the whole train, even if it wasn't there stop in the hope of getting some money.
We arrived really early into Jaipur and got a rickshaw to the hotel where we slept in the lounge for a bit. After that we had some breakfast (muesli was a hefty Rs 90!) and then got a rickshaw driver to take us round the sights such as Amber Fort (where we saw a monkey and elephants), the City Palace, Water Palace, Palace of Winds and Maharaja Memorials. The only thing we went inside was the Amber Fort because we'd already seen loads of palaces and memorials before. Oh , we also stopped off at fabric warehouse where we were shown how they imprint their clothing with dyes etc. and then given the usual sales pitch but wer didn't buy anything. When we got back to the hotel we checked-in and chilled for a bit, didn't do much for the rest of the evening.
The day after was Holi, which was mental! We decided to go into town for a bit just to see the real Holi festival, it wasn't the best idea as all the guys just wanted to get paint on Elisa and not me, they were a bit touchy feely. We went back to the hotel after about five minutes. When we got out of the rickshaw a group of little kids started talking to us and smearing us with paint, which we didn't mind but then one of the little girls asked Elisa for money and started squirting paint at her so she ran away. Then another surprisingly strong girl yanked a bottle of water out of my hand and ran off with it, (the shame-mugged by an 8 year old girl lol!). Once back in the hotel we celebrated Holi there. Mr Singh (the owner) puts on a celebration every year. There was paint, drums and alcohol galore. We both had a go with the paint, Elisa had one Vodka and Limca (lemonade) but I couldn't have any because I've given it up for Lent! The drums got a bit much after a few hours, the head started to bang a little but we had a really good time. We decided to beat the queues or the shower because we had a flight to catch so went and got cleaned up pretty early. The party had started to die down by that time anyway. Once we were all neat and tidy we went back upstairs and chilled out on the roof with colourful people still milling about having the odd drink and bit of curry from the buffet put out. No-one seemed to want to take us to the airport and it took ages for the hotel to arrange us a rickshaw and then when we finally got one he took us to the main road then pulled up and flagged down another one to take us but he wasn't too good at finding his way to the aiport, we had to point out a few signs to him every so often.
Right, Elisa is going to write some now, I keep forgetting all the details!
arrived at mumbai after the plane ride, it doesnt actualy seem like ur in indian there, alot more european with the buildings etc. walked around there for a day, went to the beach- but water was brown so didnt go in! staying in a hotel over nite wich was defo like a jail cell! horrid- the walls were paper thing- not proper walls, and at the top were holes/ railings which led to the rooms next to you, so you could hear everything that was goin on in the rooms, and we got woken up at 4am and then at 7am with people talking and watching tv! arrrgh!
went to goa the next day- thats where we are now! its really nice here, where staying in a beach hut rite by the river and the beach. lots of insects tho so some of u wont like it- i had a spider showering with me other day! just been relaxing by the beach and sitting in hammocks and playing cards, getting a bit of a tan (ner ner). rented a kayak today which was a failure! current was strong so was v hard to direct it. staying here for about a week...so wil be doing the same things each day. gotta go now! xx
