Hey Everyone,
We are now in Orchha but we've got loads to to tell you from before because we've on the move for a while.
First of all lets talk about our last few days in Varanasi. As you all know Elisa got ill so we had to go to the doctor just to check she was ok. What we thought would be a 5 minute visit turned out to take about an hour and a half and (in Indian terms) a hefty medical bill. We were escorted t othe doctors by a guy from the hotel, Elisa got a check up from the nurse (hasen't lost any weight, she got weighed( and the doctor then diagnosed her as having an infection in her throat even though her throat hardly hurt. She was given 5 sifferent types of tablets, an orange drink, an injection, which gave her a big lump on her arm, and inhalation treatment, which only made her feel worse and gave her the shakes.
The day after Elsa had recovered and we chilled in the hotel, played cards and said our goodbyes to Varanasi. On our final visit to the Ganges we got talking to a guy who tried to sell us Hash and recommended he drink some Sambuca. We got the train in the evening, which turned out to be a bit of an ordeal. There were millions of platforms and no-one knew where our train was leaving from. finally we took a gamble on the train at platform 5 but didn't know which carriage to get on as the thing was about 12 long. We finally got on one a few seconds before it left. Once it set off we found we were at the opposite end of the train so made our way down. We had to jump off when the train stopped thouhg and ake our way to the next carriage because certain sections were closed off. We finally got to our carriage at midnight (the train had set off at 6!).
We arrived in Khajuraho in the morning. It was a lot quieter, although there were a few touts around the main sights. We visited the different hindu and jaina temples, saw some cute puppies and played cards with some indians, an israeli and hash (its legal in that state) smoking saddhu (a wandering old man) who had a big white beard and hindu paint on his face. It was really fun and Elisa learnt a magic card trick off one of the guys (she'l show you when she gets back). We tried to teach them hi jack but they were too high.
The train journey to Orchha was a lot smoother than our others. We sat with two guys who turned out to be tour guides, they gave us some good tips for Agra and told us lots of good information. Got to Orchha, it's even smaller than Khajuraho and we've just been walking around, taking in the sights and sitting on the main square (there were a group of Saddhu's playing music and singing). We managed to get some pasta with butter for lunch! Elisa nabbed a bracelet off a little girl. She was one of the hawkers who give you sometihng, promise it's a gift and then want money for it. Elisa took her gift then refused to buy the girl some coke after (meanie!). Elisa- "She said it was a gift! I warned her."
Tomorrow we're off to Agra to see the Taj Mahal so we'll let you know about that as soon as. Hope everyone is well in England!
