We are in Chiang Mai, after beach, Bangkok and culture in Sukothai. We did a fantastic 3 day trek; We went first by bus to the north, near the border with Burma. There we walked 3 hours in the jungle, mostly bamboo wood. IT went up and down and with our own backpacks to carry it was nice to reach a water fall and have a rest. Not a swim, because that for me was too cold! We slept with our group members in on ebig bamboo room in a Lahu village. After dinner a big fire was lit and we got to see and participate in dancing and singing. Of course they also tried to sell us the tribal souvenirs such as bracelets, hats, bags etc. Overnights some of us had stomach problems, which could have been the rice whiskey or anything really. The next day we walked another 3 hours and after lunch went down the river on a bamboo raft. We were with 3 rafts for 12 people. They are quite unstable and you get wet feet. The boys had to do all the hard work and get us moving down stream. In one rapid our raft crashed on the rocks and it took lots of effort, such as jumping in the water and pushing to get off the rocks and back in the flow. Again we slept in one big bamboo room, this time in a Lahu village but it was more developed and no evening program. Just as well since most of us were tired, or ill. The last day we went to a viewpoint, a cave and on an elephant tour, all very relaxed, and back to Chiang Mai in the evening.
Here we have not done much but relaxing. We take the bus to the border tomorrow and from there on we go to Laos for about 3 weeks. More form there!
