Woke up and headed straight out to start our activities so we could leave again at about lunchtime to get back in time to pick up our glass creations. We started with the 4D experience Wild Fury which 'took' us back in time to follow the history of how the falls were created. We were surrounded by screens showing us the events that contributed to their formation, we were splashed by flooding waters, shaken by earthquakes and landslides and finally sprayed by the falls. We 'travelled' along the river and down the falls, thankful for the rain ponchos we had been provided.
Next we headed to the boat and yep, another poncho!! We jostled for a position at the front of the boat and tucked our ponchos around us waiting for the misty spray!!! Ha, misty spray.....more like drenching downpour. We were quite wet when we finally disembarked and it was great!! I can't believe how close to the falls they take you. Very cool. I wouldn't take the walk behind the falls again or the Fury show but would definitely ride the boat again. There is something quite amazing about getting drenched by Niagara Falls!!
Lastly, we caught the local bus to the white water walk and wandered along the path looking at the Category 6 white water 'course'. Apparently, this level of 'course' is unrunnable even though a few have tried, IN BARRELS!!!! The stories are quite mind blowing really. Folks have tried to swim, boat and barrel down the rapids with little success. It was amazing watching the water alongside the actual rapids where the water being displaced was swirling and bubbling almost like boiling water. One story which was quite interesting to us was that of a lady who went with her dog in a barrel down the rapids. Amazingly, they made it through but were caught in the whirlpool at the bottom for about 6 hours. When the barrel was finally retrieved they found the dog quite alive but the lady dead. Apparently, the barrel had only 1 air hole and the dog had found it and pushed his nose out to breathe which caused his owner to suffocate!! I still can't believe anyone would want to brave these rapids, especially in a barrel!!
By now, it had started to rain so we quickly found the Beaver Tails shop which was on my wish list and I had an apple and cinnamon Beaver Tail. OMG!!! So huge and crazy delicious......yummo. Might have to build a BeaverTail shop next to my Australian Girl doll store.....
With Niagara experiences all done we headed back to Corning to re-claim our glass creations and really see them for the first time. When we made them, the glass is so hot that you can't really see the colours but they brighten as the glass slowly cools so we were quite curious to see how they looked. Luckily, they were all gorgeous and quite individual. The next trick is to carry them about for the next 4 weeks and get them home in 1 piece. Again, the question: was it worth all the driving to see this natural wonder? Again, the answer is a resounding,Yes!! Absolutely!! As with the Grand Canyon, pictures and television simply cannot capture how magnificent these landscapes really are, you have to see them to truly appreciate them.
