G'day one and all back in Blighty,
Here we are now in Queensland, venturing down the east coast slowly taking in all it has to offer before arriving in Bryon Bay for Christmas and Sydney for New Year- whoop whoop!
Cairns was a big change from central Oz home to the oldest rainforest in the world just north of the town. Cairns itself boasting an infectious energy in it's lush tropical setting, being very much a toruist town with it's own lagoon and esplanade. We stayed at a lively hostle by the name of Gilligans with its very own nightclub, resturant and manmade beach around the pool, complete with DJ! We took the chance to take in the wonderous Cape Tribulation on a one day tour. First stopping at the small sophicated town of Port Douglas home to a quaint harbour with tons of luxurious yachts, before heading to mossman gorge where we had the chance to swim in the crystal clear mineral water spilling over large grey boulders. Then after a short walk around the mangroves and under spiders webs through the rainforest, it was on to see Cape Tribulation where the rainforest meets the reef, an iconic world heritage listed site. Lorna and I took the chance to busk in the sun and bath in the sea soaking up the surroundings- wow! We ended the day to hunt down some wild Crocs on the Daintree River where we were lucky enough to spot two lerking on the rivers bank, was great to see them in their natural habitate.
After leaving Cairns we boarded the Oz Experience Coach which we will be hopping on and off as we please until we reach our final destination of Sydney! Each of the drivers are pretty clued up on the east coast and are like our on board travel agent which has made booking hostles and trips a piece of cake. Sometimes they stop along the journey to break it up, on this particular journey we stopped at the crocodile farm. Well, Lorna and I wish we hadn't parted with our dollars on this shocking place. This was such a big eye opener as we made our way around the farm. We were confronted with Crocodile skin purses, bags and belts as well as stuffed baby crocs. The cages that housed the Crocs were so small with only shallow pools to bath in. The evil guide thrashed a stick at the water trying to tempt the croc out into the burning sun with a piece of meat, just for our entertainment- we hated this place it was so cruel we could wait to get back on the bus to leave!!!
Our next stop was the sleepy town of Townsville, grab your blankets people this place may send you to sleep. It was pretty much like a ghost town here, a much shyer version of Cairns, this place never quite took off. So Lorna and I took the ferry over to Magnetic island for the day, where half the island is national park making for a stunning setting. Being the two beach bums we are we headed straight for Horseshoe Bay (see pic) to catch some rays and totally chill out, it's s hard life out here- haha!
Big HELLO to all back home, can't belive we have nearly been out here 8 weeks now. Hope all is safe and well, miss you loads. Thanks for all the blog posts, comments ect.
