Activity Category: Getting Robbed.
So without much dwelling on this little episode, you all by now know what happened to us on the night bus from Saigon to Nha Trang, yes that's right, 3weeks in and we experienced the darker side to travelling and got robbed whilst sleeping. Impossible? Should have been. You'd think that 2 padlocks and a sealed luggage compartment would protect you, but no. We suspect the tour company were in on it and we also suspect that children under the bus were involved- tiny hands.
Ah well. That's life. We arrived in at about 6am and discovered our impressive lack of money and spent the guts of two days sorting out police reports (a word to the wise, avoid the vietnamese police wherever possible, these guys are bigger crooks than the crooks) and insurance and calming the heck down!
Not something we particularly want to remember, so without further ado, I'll move on to the nicer side of Nha Trang. We spent a couple of days here, chilling out on the beach (impressive waves), getting wasted at 'shot o'clock' in the Why Not? Bar with a little help of Christian the creepy Hungarian barman. We also saw our first rats. On first inspection, especially when arriving from openly dirty Cambodia, Vietnam appears to be well kept and tidy. After a closer look however, it becomes blatantly apparent that they simply take all their rubbish and sweep it under tidy hedges. Our friend Roland the Rat enjoys this laissez faire attitude to cleanliness, as he can live like a King on the scraps and grow to the size of a small dog, I kid you not.
We met up again with Andy and Nic, wandered about, stumbled across a super weird tea, embroidery and poetry garden, went to the local mud baths (AMAZING) and took a boat trip around some of the local islands. The boat trip was hilarious, not only because Erin gets seasick, but also because the previous evening had been the 'shot o' clock' fiasco, and we were all a little fragile. We did some snorkelling, had a floating bar in the middle of the ocean and danced on the ships tables to Michael Jackson with our skipper "information information!". He also insisted in serenading us to Eternal Flame.
will write more later, being ushered off the computer by a strange little man...
