Today was a wonderful day in town! We walked over 11 miles circling the town exploring Erin's work place, parks, rivers, shops, and neighborhoods. We were a bit tired from the nearly sleepless night that was weighted down with restlessness. I suppose we are still adjusting to the time change.
We were able to navigate very well through town and found some areas that we absolutely love. Reading is truly starting to feel like home. After walking to Rockwell Collins (where Erin works), we ventured back into town were we found the Abbey Ruins, and hiked the Chestnut Pathway to the Forbury Gardens. It was wonderful! Though it was sunny and blue skies for most of the day, we became chilled by the strengthening wind and decided to warm up with our first European coffee. We went to The Works, apparently they just won some sort of award for best brew. It is true the coffee over here is much different. Hopefully we can get used to its strength.
We hiked up "Castle Hill" near our home around sunset to search for more safe areas to run/walk. We found that this is a beautiful area with large houses that actually have yards! There are many thatched houses here with picket fences and bright green yards, absolutely beautiful! We were able to meet a couple of our neighbors tonight, so it will be nice to have some friendly faces around. We are still fighting with our refrigerator, so we walked back to the town center to buy fresh groceries for dinner… this could get old. Everything else is going great and we look forward to updating you after our first fun weekend here!
Cheers,
John & Erin
