This past weekend we went down to Koh Samet for a weekend in paradise. We took a van from Bangkok and then a speedboat from the pier. It was about a 3 hour drive and then 10 minute boat ride in total. The boat dropped us off right on the beach, literally in the water. So off your sandals come and you just walk through the water onto the beach and grab a spot on the beach for some food and beers. We rented a bungalow for about 800 baht which is about $25 Canadian....

This past week has been a good "tourist" week for us. Nic has been feeling better and better and we've been taking complete advantage. Last weekend we spent the day with my cousin John who is a principal here. He took us through the ferry system and got us up to speed on transportation in Bangkok. We went for lunch at a local thai restaurant where we had amazing authentic thai food. Luckily, we had John with us to order the more "mild" version...

This past week was a little easier and things are slowly beginning to make more sense. I'm very comfortable taking the skytrain now and know where to find/ask for general things. I finally discovered a grocery store that sells things like soup and popcorn. This is a HUGE advancement for us. Nic's been sick this week and we had to go in to the hospital yesterday to get him some antibiotics. He's slowly peeling himself out of bed and even eating spoonfuls of rice!...

So we've been in Bangkok a week now, but if feels like much longer. We finally arrived on January 1st after a good 12 hour wait in the Ottawa airport. We flew out to Franfurt, had a six hour layover and then flew in to Bangkok. Frankfurt was a neat place...you get a chocolate with your coffee! AMAZING!
