Emma's Travels
Okay I never got time to finish updating my last journal entry....so here goes!
The afternoon on the boat was great and they dropped us off in Darling Harbour. Since it was our last ever night staying in 'paid for accommodation' we had decided to opt for a nice hotel on our last night and give the hostels a miss. So we had booked the novotel in Darling Harbour and the boat left us just at the bottom of it. We waved everyone off and then embarked on climbing the 300 odd steps to get to the hotel with our back packs on (not an easy thing to do). Hotel looked lovely inside but to our dissapiontment we had turned up at the wrong hotel :O( So we had to walk all down the stairs again and this time to the other novotel about 10 mins walk away where we had a lovely view of the back of the Convention Centre. Room was nice though and we had a little siests to recharge the batteries.
In the evening we had arranged to meet Liam and Neil (from the bridge climb) for some drinks and dinner. Once again it wasn't meant to be a long night but the Rocks and Darling Harbour area were jumping since Australia were due to play Brazil at 2am local time. Of course we couldn't pass up that opportunity to join in the locals and cheer on the Socceroos. The whole city was painted yellow and green and it was a fantastic atmosphere even if they did lose. Got home about 5am since taxis were few and far between.
Yesterday we decided to take a trip up to the Sydney Tower to take in the specatucular views. I felt fine but I think Shona may have been feeling the effects from the night before lol. We then too a virtual simulation ride through the Australian outback and rainforest. Then it was time to head back to the hotel, get ready and head to the airport to fly to Melbourne. We arrived at 10pm and Michelle and James came to pick us up.
Today (our 2nd last day sob) Shona and I decided to get some souvenir shopping under way. We took a tram out to St Kilda to walk along the beach and then took in the boutique shops. It reminded me very much of the West End back home. Although they don't serve nearly as many cakes....row after row of cake shops. We then took the tram back into City centre melbourne were we have been rummaging through all the tacky souvenir shops.
Our last day tommorrow we have booked a full days excursion to do wine tasting in the Yarra Valley. We shall be visiting 4 vineyards and then get treated to a 2 course lunch. This is all very well for the 2 girls that made a pact yesterday evening to do a 2 day detox before we came home and give our kidneys a rest.
So this shall probably be my last entry......I arrive home at approx 5pm on Thursday evening. I shall be expecting a fanfare and limousine to pick me up.
Hope everyone is well and expect to be bored silly by all my photos when I come home.
