On sunday night we stayed here in Hervey Bay ready to get our things together to leave to go to Fraser Island very early at 8am on the monday morning, and as I was getting my things together I went outside on my phone for a minute and a massive Possum nearly jumped of the roof onto my head, it was very very scary and I quickly ran back into the room, then a toad was ribbititing outside our room which set off all the birds too! so after some very noisy wildlife we got to sleep.
We got up for 8 am where we went to meet our tour guide-Chris who tooks us over to Fraser Island, we loaded up into the 4x4's.
There were 7 in one car and 6 in the other and Chris was in the front car guiding us, we went to the ferry and went across to the island, with bright sunshine, when we got to Fraser Island, Chris took us to have a picnic for some lunch and then onto lake Birrabean which is a massive freshwater lake where we sunbathed and swam.
We are not allowed (no one can) swim in the sea as it is a breeding ground for sharks and therefore there are hundreds in there!! and they are large, 2 or 3m long at least!! so we stuck to swimming in the lakes.
After this we went to our campsite which is in the middle of the Rainforest! We set up our tents and then Chris was cooking the dinner and we were peeling the potatoes, after dinner we sat round a massive table chatting with everyone in the group and it is lit up by some overhead lights which are linked upto the main truck so we can all see each other and chat, Vicki and I then needed the toilet, and by this point it was pitch black so we ventured into the forest arm in arm chatting, and we had vicki's torch which we shone along the ground to guide our way but all of a sudden we shone it on a absolutley massive snake crawling across the path casually!! Vicki and I took one look at the snake and then at each other and screamed, and Vicki said what do we do and I just said RUN! so with that we turned around and I lost my flip flop in the commotion so that slowed me down and then we ran back to camp to tell Chris!! screaming as we went.
Chris then came down with us to look at it, and luckily it was a harmless one but we were not to know as we were in fact camping among 7 out of the 10 most deadliest snakes in the world live on Fraser Island!! so very very scary!!!!! and we were right in the Rainforest! Then we continued the evening and went to bed later on as we were to be up at 6am on Tuesday morning!
