30th September 2008: We arrive in the pretty city of Cusco early in the morning and all head off for a huge fry-up, which is very welcome indeed! We visit a nearby factory selling products made from alpaca wool, and after feeling how soft it is my good intentions of not buying anything go out of the window and I end up with a pashmina and some christmas presents! We also find the factory cat has recently had kittens so we manage to find them and cuddle them....lots! I try to steal one but Mother Cat is not too happy so after giving it back we head off to the local markets. I buy a ceramic 'Tumi' which is a ceremonial knife used by pre-Inca and Inca civilisations. In the evening some of us go to the theatre to see a production called Chaska, by a company called Kusikay. The story is based on the myths, and beliefs of Andean culture and was incredibly well produced. We also have a briefing on what we need to take on the Inca Trail, pick up our sleeping bags, walking sticks and roll mats and try to cram four days worth of clothes into a tiny duffle bag!
