I just got back from the trip from HELL!!! I can't take pirate ship boats!!! I was really sea sick...motion sickness every minute of the trip bar 2 hours when i was snorkelling and diving!
We arrived at the boat with 28 other people and spent the afternoon sailing the whitsundays, or in my case lying on a sofa though i must admit, the view out of the cabin window was truly spectacular. We stopped off over night in Hook Passage where we spotted two sea turtles and had a really nice supper which unfortunately didn't stay down longer than 2 hours. Everyone on the trip was really nice and the crew were so funny and very helpful (stompey and sam). The four of us signed up for an intro dive and that evening we were told about the basic skills, hand signals and about the equipment. I wasn't feeling too good! That night we all slept in two rooms in cabins...my bed was kind of burrow like but cosy. I really didn't sleep well, the room was literally a sauna because the air con was broken aaahhh i felt so ill!! The next morning i woke up feeling terrible as i have also had stomach pains for the last few days (i am going to the doctors tomorrow). I really wanted to get off the boat so stopping off for three hours on Whithaven Beach (the most picturesque and beautiful beach in the Whitsundays) was the best news! We powerboated over and walked through the jungle to get to the beach which was so so stunning, white sand and turquoisey blue water with a vast stretch of beach. The sand was 97% silica so was incredibly fine and bright white. We lazed on the beach and some people went swimming in the sea in their stinger suits. When we returned to the boat we had a really nice buffet lunch...which once again just wouldn't stay down...the bobbing of the boat and swaying back and forth really didn't blend well with me!! In the afternoon we stopped...yes...and the four of us went scuba diving in a really pretty bay. We we geared up with weight belts, masks, tanks and other very complex equipment which we 'didn't have to worry about' and tought how to get rid of any water from our mask (take it out of your mouth while under the water tip it upside down while blowing out bubbles and then put it back in to your mouth and blow really hard!!!!) we also learnt hoe to clear water from our eye mask and most inmportantly we practiced breathing under water....very very surprisingly being the terrible swimmer that i am i found it fine, well maybe slightly strange because huge bubbles are blown out when you breath and you sound like darthveider(sorry!!) but other than that it was awesome! We then dived at a depth of 5-8m underwater for about 25m. It is such an amazing experience, the coral is so interesting....different colours, shapes, sizes and textures (getting arty!) and the fish so beautiful........
internet running out! got to dash....will be back!
