LAst night we stayed a night in Wanaka in a hotel!!!It was located just above the lake so we had such a beautiful view from our room. We also had a bath, a tv and a 4 bed dorm!In the affternoon we went into town for a few hours and booked our plane flight from Queenstown to Wellington. We bought pasta and sauce which meant our supper cost us 1 pound!!!!!Didn't buy enough sauce but loaded on the chedder cheese which really shocked MArk and Andrew (very strange) We then went and watched films in our room...the Kenyan film and Black Hawk Down 'you are a .....!' Got very sleepy so we all went to bed.....
......and woke up at 8.00am!! We got onto the bus and i cancelled my bungy booking for the following reasons
1)The thought of falling/diving headfirst 134m terrifies me
2)I start shaking at the thought of an 8.5 second freefall
3)I can't even dive into a pool!!!
4)Everyone says it is insane!
I booked myself onto the Canyon Swing instead! We drive in the Kiwi bus to Puzzling house and sit for a while trying to make objects out of wooden shapes and solve puzzles...none of us really got anywhere! The loos were quite funny with a Roman mura and wooden seats with holes to squat! After a while there we got back in the bus and drove on to Queenstown. Before arriving in Queenstown we stopped of at the at the first ever Bungy Sight ine world which was set up by AJ Hackett who has made Bungy jumping an international phenomenon...he bungy jumped off the Eiffel Tower illegally in 1987. We watched a dvd on Bungy jumping and some bungy demonstration. I still wasn't persuaded thought the dvd was appealing! We then walked outside onto a lookout platform and watched people bungy jump off the 43m high bridge....started to come round to the idea. I then walk inside to find Bins, Tans, Mark and Andrew all booking the bungy jump....thw 134m Nevis Bungy jump!
I started shaking and i lost my stomach and my breathing rate increased and i succumbed and booked the 134m Bungy jump....for 3.30pm that afternoon!!!!
I was so nervous
I burst into nervous, panic attack tears in the bus!
3 hours later i am in the bungy centre watching bungy videos.
30 minutes later i am driving up a broun, dry, dustymountainside track peering over the side thinking......oh my god!
45 minutes later i am standing on the edge of the Nevis building out at the pod which is suspended 440 feet above the ground and to which you reach by cable car!!I am petrified.
45 minutes later...
Tans jumps, Bins jumps, lots of people jump and then they call out Emma...Emma Corbett...oh dear! The pod is suspended above a rocky, meandering river and sided by rugged, rocky cliffs! I sit down in the 'doctors chair' and have my leg harnesses attatched and they instructor points out the red chord i have to pull to turn myself at the bottom. I then have to shuffle to the edge of the platforom, i freeze about 3 times doing so. I am standing on the edge. I am not looking down. I am petrified. I am panicking. Tears. The instructor is reassuring me. My nerves were making me nervous and my mind was goign crazy fighting with my body! All i was saying was 'i can't do this!'. 1..2..3...no jump. More reassuring. 1...2....3...jump!!!!!!!!
I fall head first and the air rushes against my body so fast.......the 8.5 second free fall lasts about 3 seconds and then i swing back upwards....bouncing up and down and pull the red chord which causes the harness around my legs to fall away and me to turn supside down...but the right way up into a seated position in my harness.....then a lot of words came out of my mouth and i was so happy! It was incredible and so overly hyped up by everyone i spoke to about it!
I want to do a higher one!
I got pulled back up the the platform and hugged the instructor!Have to add that i was very pleased to feel the floor! Hannah jumped! We then travelled back to the bungy building with the instuctors as we were the last to jump because we were the lightest. I watched my dvd and i literally stand on the platform for so long before i jump...slightly painful to watch and i still can't believe i did it...i so nearly didn't! Apparently i was driving everyone insane in the building and when i jumped...eventually....they cheered! It was such an incredible experience and one which i was not expecting to undertake that day! I bought the dvd for everyone to watch and laugh at and i also got the photos and a free t-shirt and hot dog!
A menatl battle was fought!
Tonight is going to be a very big night!
...no more dangerous, extreme sports....i promise! x x x x x x
