Well hello everyone - welcome back to our blog! Working life has kind of taken over in the past couple of months so our blog entires are a little behind. So here's an update...
Started work in Greymouth hospital on 15th October and moved into the 'Blue House' above the fish&chip, pizza and whitebait takewaway/internet cafe! Whitebait is all the rage on the west coast - tiny wee fish with big black eyes. You can try them in patties, omletes and sandwiches but haven't braved it yet!! Did however try out the internet facilities which were poor to say the least so that's our excuse for not uploading pics!
We've settled into life in Greymouth very quickly and despite all the bad press this place gets we're loving it although haven't taken to wearing stubbies and gumboots just yet! Spend our weeks physioing at greybase hospital - Emma sorts out the broken bones and I travel the west coast working with kids. We've become a bit exercise crazy - running half marathons and are now regulars at Fat Max's gym! Not really picking up a kiwi accent though cos the physios we work with are Scottish, English and Dutch!
Our little Toyota Starlet has had a bit of a workout at the weekends as we road trip round the south island. So far we've made it to Abel Tasman National Park, Kaikoura, Hamner Springs, Christchurch, Akaroa, Arthur's Pass, Pancake Rocks, Oparara Basin, Wanaka, Queenstown and this weekend we're at Franz Josef Glacier. All amazing but some of the highlights have been skydiving out of a helicopter in Lake Wanaka, a Ferburger and Dux de Lux cider in Queenstown, Pizza and lovely New Zealand wine in Christchurch, the views from the top of Ben Lomond and sunning ourselves on Awaroa Beach in Abel Tasman National Park. Some of the not so cool moments have included having to eat peanut butter/banana sandwiches for breakfast, lunch and dinner after we misjudged the tide times and didn't make it to the lodge for dinner in Abel Tasman! Also wasn't too impressed when we came home from a night out in Christchurch to find the snack machine was out of order. Fortunately Emma went on a crisp hunt after I unsuccessfully tried to break into the machine!
Just spent a very enjoyable weekend in Franz Josef with Lesley (friend from home) and two girls from work in greymouth, Keeley and Mel. Hiked fanz josef glacier yesterday and enjoyed some Monteiths cider at Speights Ale House - good time :)
Merry Christmas everyone from sunny New Zealand xxx
