An early 3hr ferry to Montevideo and another passport stamp we weren't expecting, then having to wait 4 hrs for a bus at Tres Cruces, which wasnt so bad as the building was also home to a huge shopping centre, we finaly arrived in the sleepy seaside town of La Paloma.
With no guide book for Uruaguay and having not bothered to gather any other information before leaving BA apart from where La Paloma was we asked a taxi driver to take us to a Hostel. "Todo Cerrado" was his reply so we wandered off into the night in search of a hotel, we were surprised at how much of a ghost town the place was.
Wandering the deserted golden beach the next morning we'd just dodged a dead penguin when we saw a tall blonde fellow waving at us from down the beach. All the gang had snowballed to La Paloma, Bally, Jer, Dave, Muzzles, Karolyn and Liam plus a few new faces in Jonesy, Shaun, Gareth and Ray.
They were staying in cabanas in the next village along from La Paloma and we were invited over that evening. Hired some bikes for the week and it being Halloween, even carbed a pumpkin to take along with us. As usual Jer's skills in the kitchen and Bally's prowess infront of the BBQ did us proud.
We moved to our own cute little cabana in the morning, set in a fir forest, literally yards from the beach with not a sound apart from the breaking waves, birds and frogs. We totally relaxed over the next 4 days, not moving further than the supermarket for food and log pile for fuel for the BBQ. We're getting danm good at BBQ's now (except Jonesy, who needs a lesson or two on building a fire!).
We made an effort to go into town on Saturdy night, not sure how exciting the tired little place would get. We found a bar / restaurant / club which was empty, but the staf insisted we move the dinner table to one side after dinner and to our surprise the place was heaving by 1am. Everyone took to the dancefloor to cheer on Murray and his bad drunken breakdancing! Not so steady on the bikes on the way home, Jona had a bit of a random beer injury with the bike not seeming to want to go the same way as him, and found himself giggling and grazed on the tarmac.
Monday we had to say bye to Liam, his guitar and Jonsey, our neighbours for the last 4 nights, and the rest of them across the way in their flash bungalow, until Creamfields the following weekend back in BA.
