We've been in Thailand for a few days now. The time zone is now only 6 hours in front. Getting used to immigration procedures and have some fancy stamps in our passports! Bangkok is a very relaxed city compared to the ones in China. Everybody is very polite as well. The first evening we spent at the hostel. we didnt arrive til about 9pm so we were up for an early night! We also discovered the breakfast at the hostel was all you can eat and drink for 60 baht. Currently its 67 baht to the pound so its about 90 pence!
The next day we went to go to the Grand Palace. Due to it being a Buddist day we couldnt go in so we diverted and went to Khao San road, a famous road full of markets and bars especially for tourists. Bartering is becoming a way of life so its becoming a competition to see which stalls sell for the lowest prices. We quickly learnt that Thailand is even cheaper than China with an average meal ranging from 1 pound to 1.50! We spent the night looking around the local area around the hostel which is at the edge of the central city and tried different foods from the stalls.
Yesterday, we went to the Weekend Market, the biggest market in Asia with over 11,000 stalls. We only spent an hour there as it was reaching around 36 degrees plus and we needed shade! You can buy everything there to home goods, animals which were surprsingly well cared for, to food and clothes. Everything is extremely cheap. We also went on the sky train, and had a look at Central Bangkok and even watched a thai fashion show! In the evening we went back to Khao San Road for cheap drinks and dinner.
This morning we booked our train and hostel in Chiang Mai. The train will be tomorrow overnight and will take about 12 hours although we have heard that theyre not always that reliable! Today we went back to the Grand Palace and this time was successful. Everything was encrused with sparkly mosaic tiles. We saw a group of monks praying and visited the temple room with the buddah where we had to take our shoes off and we werent allowed to point our feet to the Buddah. (its believed that the head is the most upper clean part of the body and the feet are dirty). I think this evening we are going to relax, maybe take a swim in our pool...see what happens :-)
Lots of love. xx
