Hi everybody!!!!!
I am finally on holiday for Christmas! lol!!! China doesn't celebrate xmas, so there was no holiday - but we do get 5 weeks off for Chinese New Year... so this is the start of Emma's adventures into Indonesia and Malaysia!! woop woop!!!
After a teary 2 o'clock departure (i was sad to say goodbye to friends and boyfriend - i know, im an emo flim ... haha) I have now been in Singapore for a 12 hour stop over before my final flight to Denpasar, Bali. I thought I would make the most of a trip to Singapore, so I ventured outside the airport and toke a free Colonial Tour of the city. Singapore is gorgeous, bright sunshine and trees all over the city. This has to be the most greenest city in the world!! Its like a city in a rainforest. Its beautiful! The air is also so clean and clear, something you take for granted until you move to Beijing. lol.
We saw many of the famous sights on the short tour, including the famous Merlion - half lion, half fish which sits on the waterfront. In Singapore they are really proud of their history, the city was founded by Raffles, an English man who saw potential into turning the small fishing port into a big port to rival other nearby cities, founded by the Dutch. The city has grown from strength to strength, and considering it is one of the worlds smallest countries - it has apparent wealth and pride.
Everyone here speaks perfect English, which was a shocker for me... as I am so used to not being understood now. lol. However, 77% of the population of Singapore are Chinese and even though their English is word perfect - of course, being me - i had to show off!!! I shocked a restuarant owner by ordering my dinner in chinese and a chinese child sang "Heads ,shoulders"knees and toes" to me on the train - so I shocked his family by singing it back to them in Chinese. hahaha
Weather: The heat is incredbile, especially after Harbin and Beijing!! MY LORD.. i am going to sweat a sweet death i think. lol.
FOOD: After seeing all the multicultural dishes on offer, I found myself eating what I have been eating for the past 5 months - chinese food lol. i guess i'm used to it now. lol. I did try a street snack, called a Durian pancake. Durian is their national fruit.. and it is infamous for "tasting like heaven, but smelling like hell". It does have a really pungent smell, so much so that it is the only item of food banned on trains and subways. haha!! But it does taste very different to its smell, i am pleased to report. They are famous all over Indonesia and Malaysia, so no doubt I will eat lots more!!
Anywho... off now! I have a flight to catch!!!
Love you all. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Wish you could all be here with me!! :
