Well our little maggie made it across to perth but i have managed to loose all my pics and videos of the trip but hey were going back across so i will just have to take more. Day one we headed north for port augusta on the was we took a detour and went up into the hills to a spot called crocodile gorge which was amazing and so steep it was about half an hour off the main road and a worth while drive. We the wen to the next spot which was about 11k off the road up a long track and there were loads of emus all over the place we then reached hancocks point with amazing views out over the hills towards the sea, it was quite windy and not the clearest day. Then we went to port augusta thinking that its was a big place well it wasnt and not much to do so we had a quick wander then back to maggie and down to port lincoln at the southern end of the eyre peninsular. We had a quick stop for a bit to eat at a town call cowell bit it was dark when we got there so couldnt see much but had the best meal we could of hoped for. The road trains are huge some are three trailers long and some are so wide they take up both lanes on the road.
Port lincoln was a pritty city not that big but the second biggest in the state, we took a drive out to cape carnot in the morning stunning views. Then made our way to coffin bay for lunch a nice little town we had been told to try the oysters as they are ment to be the best in the world, i had mine with a kind of cheese sauce as i was to scared to try them with out really nice. On our way back up the peninsular we stopped at talia cave which is right on the sae front and huge, then further up murphys hay stacks which are weird rock formations in the middle of corn fields. It was such a nice setting as this time of year the fields are golden and it was a lovely clear day. Then it was on to caduna for the night where we stayed in a tin porta cabin and i got bitten by mosquitos again.
From caduna there is nothing much as we hit the nullabore plain just a quick stop at the head of blight marine national park for a look and we were lucky enough that a southern right whale and her calf were still in the bay but there was also a large shark so as we got there she was moving away form the shallow waters. It was a great stop to make before the long trek to the border the views of the bunda cliffs were great similar the the cliffs at dover. We got to the border and had a quick quarantine check as the aussies are very strict as what you can take over some of the borders. Just over the border a few ks of the road are some old telegraph station ruins which are set in the whitest sands ever. If you looked over to the end of the bunda cliffs and the sand dunes you could of been stood looking at the black mountains covered in snow. Then it was on to the longest straightest road in australia at 151k or 90 miles, on the way we saw dingos and some big vulture bird. We stayed the night at the balladonia road house which was the only place for another 200ks or so, they had a pet roo who liked weatabix its was so sweet.
The next day we intended on having a short day and having an afternoon off in esperance to explore the coast and national parks, But the weather was crap it was raining and there was lightning so was kept going to albany. My aim for the day was to get a video of a train as they are so long i managed to get a great video of one about 126 carrages long which streached for over 1k as i had to drive past it to get to the front to get a good video and we abandoned maggie on the side of the road and raced through the trees to get by the track. The next day it was raining again but we stopped at the valley of the giants where there is a big walk way around the tops of the trees which stand at around 60m and the walk way is 40m. The walk way didnt feel very safe as it was moving in the wind and supported by big telegraph poles every so often. The second part of the park was on the ground where you could walk through the trees as they grow with big holes between the roots. We then stopped at the Gloucester tree which is 61m and there are metal poles sticking out of it, spiraling around the tree which you can clime the tree it doesnt look very safe as there is nothing to stop you falling. On our drive to margaret river for the night we got stuck in the middle of the forrest because of an accident and there was no way round because the roads are so far apart. We made in to margaret river for the night and it was still raining so there wasnt much sight seeing done.
The next day we went south to augusta and cape leeuwin which is the southern most point of austrailia and where the southern ocean meets the indian ocean. We climed the light house there and the wind when you stopped outside up the top was unbelivable but amazing views as it had stopped raining, some of the parts had come all the way from Birmingham. We then stopped at some blow holes which made an amazing sound and a natural bridge which had been formed but the sea and a massive gorge which you couldnt even see the water in only when a big wave came on broke on the sides. We then went north to cape naturalise where there was a big wind farm and you can walk right under the turbines, there is also a light house here which we didnt go and see because it is similar to the one we haad just been to. We did how ever go for a walk around the national park along the cliffs through lots of bushes i prayed all the way round that we didnt meet any snakes, we only saw a bobtail lizzard which we had seen loads off on the road but 90% of them were dead. The next stop was Busselton which has a nice jetty which streches out for what seems like miles into the distance. Our stop for the night was in Bunbury where we had enough time to spend a few days.
The first day we popped down to the dolphin discovery centre to book a dolphin swim and as we were leaving the receptionist ran out to tell us that they were in the bay. We went back to the beach where you can stand in the water and they can swim right up to you, there was a mother and calf and they came within three foot of us. It was amazing how close wild dolphins would come expecially one with a baby. Our swim was booked for the next day so we went to the wild life centre for a look round its the funniest place i have ever been. You have a bag of seed and can walk into the pens with the birds and they land on you one took a liking to me while it was sitting on my arm it attacked my watch so i had to take it off, then it sat an my shoulder and attacked my hair band. We then walked round feeding the roos and all the other birds at one point i was feeding a roo and heard some one whistling and saying hello but it was aparrot trying to get my attention it also said bye bye. Another one if you said hello it would say whos that??? How sweet i want one i think i would even have my friend as an attack parrot. The next day we went for our dolphin swim which was amazing when you were in the water if they where close you could hear the clicking noise they make the visability wasnt great but the came right up and swam around us and underneath you had to be so quick to see them but they are incredible animals. We spent about three hours out and when we were on the boat but the rocks there was a big swell and they were jumping out of the waves and there were loads of mothers with calf the best experiance ever. Then it was on to Perth and the red bull air race.
