Well it has been a bit of a while since we wrote anything on our blog as we have been having a few problems with the Internet over here (it is sooo slow) so we have decided to give up for at least another week before we try again.
So here is a little bit or a lot what we have been up to.......
We arrived in Bali and loved it from the minute we stepped of the plane apart from the Immigration at the airport who were well dodgy. They brought a handful of us younger travellers to the front of the queue and asked for our passport and money for our visas. We reluctantly give them to him and had to wait whilst everyone else were queing up and getting theirs stamped no bother. After about 15-20 mins which felt like an hour he came over and handed us our passports and visas PHEW !! (there's just something about landing in a new country and being asked for passport and money straight away).
Our taxi driver was the equivalent to Victor Meldrew who tranported us to our hotel/backpacker place and left me to carry my backpack into the taxi itself, rude considering everywhere else we have been the taxi driver takes it off you and won't take no for an answer (what a gent). When we got to our hotel we were told they didn't have a booking so after an hour of telling the receptionist we booked over the Internet (which is not something they have major knowledge of anyway here in Indonesia) he reluctacntly gave us a suite as the room we had originally booked was not available YESS!! but we would have to move the next day, fine by us ! The next day we went down to move into our original room and were told to stay in that room for another night YESS!! It was massive and looked like a room you would get in a Carribean hotel.
That day we looked around and decided that we had got value for money at the hotel so decided to do a deal with the Manager to stay for a month. The hotel has everything we need and we get a free continental brekkie and the staff and people have been lovely.
We have hired a moped which was a little bit tricky at first as u have to get used to driving in a new place, Samui was easy compared to Bali as there is a one way traffic system here and if u miss your turning you have to go through all the traffic again. We drove round Seminyak and Tuban to have a look at the place and then went back to hotel until about 11 pm I was craving soup so we got on our moped and were on our way to the food court when we seen these torches flashing us to stop. Luckily we did stop as it was the Police, we had only gone down a one way road, had to get off the bike, Jonjo was asked for his driving license and then the Bizzie said we would have to got to Denpasar to go to court. Jonjo started arguing and I was trying to calm it to see if we could get off with it, he eventually let us go when we paid him 100,000 rp which is approx 5 quid and then let us go down the one way street anyway CORRUPTION !! Bali Police are pretty scary and must be loaded as they take back handers here there and everywhere they even stop you when you are on a tour and make the tour driver pay money just for having tourists in the car (CRAZY OR WHAT). We were a bit put off getting a moped after that and decided we needed the excercise anyway ha!
We have so far seen the Barong and Kris dance which is a Balinese traditional dance of Good over Evil. We went to see the live Volcano, Mt Batur but the weather wasn't too good on the day we went so pics are not as good but great views anyway. We have seen the Royal Temple and watched the sunset at Tanah Lot which is a Temple in the sea (unbelivably gorgeous). Our tour guide said if we see anything along the way and want to stop then tell him, we saw crowds of locals gathering around a market place and were told it is the famous illegal c*** fights. We jumped out the car and went in to watch, we were the only white people there and all the village kids were waving us and made up when we waved back (Like celebrities). The fight itself was abit gruesome as they stick sharp blades around the cock's foot and then the locals bet who is going to be the winner of the 2, then they throw them in the ring and let them fight until the death.
Anyway gonna sign off now as this is becoming an essay......
Overall Bali is a gorgeous place, really young surfer vibe to it and will definately be coming back on holiday to here as it is so cheap and is great for shopping and the people are lovely apart from the hasseling which is the worst we have seen in all the places we have been to in the world.
