Hey All,
Well, we are now back in Cairns after our 3 day tour to see Ayers Rock - or Uluru as its actually called.
We were in a tour group of 20 with a great tour guide called Joel - very funny guy. On the first day we drove through the outback from Alice Springs down to Kings Canyon - about a 5 hour journey! We did a 3 hour hike around the Canyon in pretty toasty weather but it was so beautiful! We then moved on to our campsite, well, the middle of nowhere... to set up camp.Me and Em made a pretty amazing chilli for everyone considering where we were!! We then had a few drinks around the camp fire before getting into our 'swags', basically a bag sleeping bag over another sleeping bag. It did get pretty cold during the night but there weren't any bugs so that was good!
The next morning we got up at 5.30 to have breakfast and then do another 7km hike...! Fun, before heading to the rock to watch the sunset and have dinner. Its really hard to describe how bog the rock really is! At sunset it kind of glows bright red before changing colour. We got some great pics - and lots of them!
We then moved to the next campsite - thankfully, with showers!! Another night under the stars and another early morning to watch the sunrise over the rock!(3 VERY early mornings!)
We then did a base walk around the bottom of the rock which was lovely after the two hikes up rocks etc and gave us a chance to chat to the others in the group. Then we set off back for Alice Springs with a short stop for a camel ride on a racing camel!
We are now back in Cairns and tomorrow we are going on a cable car ride across the rainforest before picking up a van on Monday!
So - we are now on week 4 - time is going so quickly but it feels like we have done so much so far!
Anyway - I'm going to try and upload photos now but will write agian soon.
Love Em xx
