Hi all,
Finally managed to get on a computer to let you know about our first week in new zealand.
We got to Auckland last weds and picked up our micro-camper (micro being the apt word). We then headed to rickys sisters friends house in Glendowie, which was lovely and unpacked and sorted ourselves out (washed our clothes!!!!!!!!) which we were very grateful for.
We headed up north the next day to see the giant Kauri trees, they were huuge, il put photos on. We camped up on a lovely hill at a hostel in Opononi with lovely views. Then we headed futrher north to the bottom of 90mile beach and then across to matui bay, very remote and pretty.
We then drove down to the bay of islands and camped in paihia, very scenic. We then headed south towards auckland and camped on pakiri beach right by the sea, we woke up the next morning at 7 to go for a run along the beach only to be told that there was a tsunami warning and we had to leave the campsite!!!!!!!!!!!!
So we headed back to auckland and i dont think the tsunami came to much! So we went out on rogers boat which was a lovely afternoon, the kids (conell, rory and tessa) slept most of the way and we sailed across to a little island, had a swim, a few glasses of wine and went back to the lantern festival in auckland!
Very busy few days and we were so greatful to have a bed and somewhere to sort ourselves out.
We left Auckland monday and headed south to the Coramandel peninsula, it was very pretty and lots to do. We went to hot water beach twice, as ricky enjoyed digging himself a hot pool so much he wanted to do it again the next day! The water was extremely host in places up to 68 deg cel!!!
We also went to cathedral cove twice as it was a nice run for us, yes we have started training again AT LAST!
Tuesday we headed to roturua to see the hot sprins and geezers. We got to our campsite which had its own hot spring and tried it out, very nice. We visited the Wai-o-tapu geothermal park, i have good photos of the geezers and mud pools, and coloured pools!
