We returned to the city on Thurs 22nd (Happy Birthday Dad Farren).
After we'd settled back into the hostel in Glebe, we decided to head off to the Sydney Harbour Bridge to climb 200 steps to the top of one of the pylons. From here, 89m above sea level, we had chance to take photos as we weren't able to take our camera on the bridge climb.
Friday, we caught a ferry to Manly. The Sydney Ferries have been on operation since before the harbour bridge was built in 1932, so are pretty old. We did however, make it across the harbour to Manly, one of Sydney's northern beaches. We spent a few hours looking around and walking along the beach. From here we made our way, by bus, to Palm Beach. It is on this beach that 'Home and Away' is filmed. We were dropped off at the south end and walked almost the full length of the beach before arriving at the Summer Bay Surf Club, where we sat for a snack and a coffee.
We left the beach at about 6pm and began our 2hr bus journey back to the city. It was worth it though as we got some brilliant views across the city as the sun began to set, we were even drove across the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Saturday, our last day in Sydney, we headed off to Darling Harbour and spent the morning in the tranquil Chinese Gardens of friendship. These gardens were built to symbolise the friendship between China and Australia, and are a relaxing retreat in the middle of such a busy bustling city. After the gardens we spent some time wandering around Darling Harbour, taking in the views in the sunshine.
Saturday night, we headed off to the Sydney Skytower in the middle of an elctical storm. We made our way up in the lift to the observation deck, 250m above the city streets. It was a magnificant sight - Sydney by night with massive forks of lightening flashing through the sky. The storm finally passed and we made our way back down the tower to OzTrek.
OzTrek is the largest simulated ride in the southern hemepsphere, and with its massive 180degree cinema screens it takes you on a virtual trip across Australia - This was good fun.
We are now heading off to catch the Greyhound to our next destination - Newcastle!!
Catch you later.
Love Emma and Lee
