Hello!!
We arrived in Sydney on Saturday, safe and sound after our bus journey, and headed to our hostel.
Sunday we awoke to a grey and gloomy morning, and headed off to check out the city. We walked through Darling Harbour and up to Circular Quay, where we got our first sighting of the Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The views were slightly disappointing, but we have since found that the sunshine makes all the difference. We spent the rest of the day getting our bearings in this busy city.
Monday, the weather had got even worse and Sydney was hit by a massive storm. We decided that we would spend the day in the Aquarium, and braved the walked to Darling Harbour - on went the kag in a bags!!
We spent most of the day wandering around the massive aquarium. Emma's favourite part was the seal tank, it had loads of caves and rocks for the seals to play and hide in, and had two large tunnels running through it so that you could see the seals from all angles - cool! We went to a touch pool where Emma touched star fish, sea erchins and a few baby Port Jackson sharks. We saw the sharks being fed and a giant turtle eating a fish, along with anything else that lives in water. We would definitely recommend this.
Tuesday morning was spent booking tours to keep us busy whilst in Sydney. In the afternoon we relaxed in the Royal Botanical Gardens, over all we weren't massively impressed by the gardens, but whilst here we saw loads of flying foxes (bats) hanging out in the trees - this was a bonus!
Valentine's Day!!
We set off early for our tour of the Sydney Opera House. On our guided tour we were told many facts and stories, including the fact that it took 16 years to complete the building and that the original budget of $5million was overshot and it ended up costing in excess of $100million. One of the most impressive parts of the Opera House was the Symphony Hall which seats 2,700 people, and it has the largest pipe organ in the world 1,500 pipes at the front and 10,500 behind the wall - quite impressive!!
From here we took a leisurely stroll across the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and relaxed in one of North Sydney's parks with a picnic, whilst taking in the views across the harbour to the opera house.
We returned to Circular Quay to get wet 'n' wild on the Thunder Jet - a jet powered boat. The silver boat sped through the water doing tail spins, nose dives and back flips, throwing in 270degree spins for good measure. Whilst getting absolutely soaked we saw some spectacular views. What a great way to see Sydney - well worth it!!
We returned to the hostel to enjoy a couple of Valentine's Day drinks, and chill out ready for our bridge climb tomorrow!
Have a good one!!
Love you loads,
Emma and Lee
