To start i just want to point out that we may moan alot while writing this thing, but we really are having fun.
New York did not live up to our expectations. we arrived there at 9pm which after travelling from manchester for amy and emma at lunch time and having an 8 hour flight on top of that was a very long day, so we pretty much just went into our s***ty hostel beds (lauras had a suspicious stain on the sheets) and forced our sens to sleep.
When we woke up had a s***ty hostel shower and decided to explore new york. we set out to climb up the empire state building (our mission for the day). we managed to conquor the sub way and found our sens in time square. we realised that we hadnt had breakfast so we found a deli and eat some food. the breakfasts in america are really weird. everything is sweet, the syrup for pancakes was sickly. if u wanted to know what we had for breakfast then here you are: emma had a hugh omellette with weird potatoey things, laura had a horrible onion bagle and a nasty milkshake, however amy enjoying her bacon and toast. After breakfast we carried on looking for the empire state building, which ment we basically looked up into the sky and tried to find it. we found it plenty of times but when heading in that direction we lost it, and ended up walking around about 20 blocks to find it again. when we eventually got to the building there was about a 5 mile que to go up it (thats no exaggeration). after looking at the back of the que we talked to some tour guy who had a yellow jacket on, who basically gave us some paper and pushed us in the middle of the que. at this time i felt bad as we had just pushed in front of loads of people who had been waiting hours. we eventually got to the front of the que and went in side the building. as we walked in the building we realised that we had got a 3 hour que ahead of us to get to the top of the empire state. 3 hours later, we managed to get in a elevator to the 80th floor then we had to walk up another 6 floors to get to the outside area on the top of the empire state building. for the 3 hours wait, we stood at the top for about 10 minutes looked at the beautiful scenery and then had to que to get out of the building. After we had been up the empire state building we went for tea at planet hollywood. amy got excited as it had the key board that was in the film big that tom hanks jumped on and made a tune. the food was alright aswell.
the next day was new years eve. this was what we thought would be the hightlight of our round the world trip. we set off on our way to time square and yet again had breakfast in time sqaure, which was massive pancakes and expensive. after breakfast, we got on a red double decker bus and did abit of sight seeing. we got to see macys, madison square gardens, ground zero etc. we got off the bus at the ferry station that took us over to staten island. this was worse then being on the titanic, except the boat didnt sink. it was so cold, the coldest ive ever been in my life. however, on this journey we did get to see the statue of liberty and brooklyn bridge. we then headed bk to our hostel to add more layers so we could go stand for hours in time square. however, by the time we added plenty more clothes it started to get late and by the time we made it into time square subway station, the police had shut off the roads and we couldnt get anywhere near to where the big ball was going to drop. i was alittle gutted as we could have seen bill clinton dancing. so after we couldnt celebrate new year in time square, the next best thing was to sit in a bakery shop thing and had a piece of cake while all our friends and family back home was drunk and texting us how great there new year was. we tried to slavage what was left of new years eve by buying a 6 pack of smirnoff ice and drinking them while sat on our hostel beds, which we later found out that we couldnt drink alcohol in our rooms. we went down stairs and laura beat amy at pool by pure luck, then we went and watched the ball drop on a big screen telly that was in our hostel with a plastic cup full of fizzy apple juice and no whimper of old langesine. laura and emma was in bed by half 12 and amy stayed up and watched all the other american states celebrate new year.
on new years day we walked the full length of central park and went to the zoo there that was pretty good as they had penguins and a polor bear. after that we went to a greasey diner where we had burgers and the biggest and sicklyest browie we've ever had
