Hi Guys,
Well heres our second blog and its all about our 3 day trek in the jungle We hope you find it as funny as we did!!
We booked a 3 day trek during our stay in Chaing Mai. At the pre trek meeting we were advised what to take by our guide joshua aka RAMBO-KING OF THE JUNGLE!
In loo of hiking boots I had my merrell walking shoes and Dean his K swiss tennis trainers!......We should be ok we thought its not like were climbing a mountain.
The next morning we woke up nice and early and off we went with our bags loaded, we stopped off for some shopping (the essentials you know..mossie cream etc)
We only had one rain mak Which I had nabbed so I said to Dean there really cheap here why dont you buy one just in case? Dean looked up at the beautiful blue sky and said nah Il be fine Em....That was his second mistake of the trek the first will become apparent soon!!!
So off we headed into the unknow we walked first for about a hour it was boiling hot and we stopped for some lunch at a little hut in some bushes. (There was 9 of us on the trek by the way) as we sat down to a tasty (not!) bowl of rice, we was surrounded by dogs, cats, pigs, roosters and Dean!! Seriously it was like a farm yard. Anyway I left everyone eating as I was losing my appetite fast.
The first part of the walk wasnt bad so I really wasnt worried about the next 3 hours big mistake!!
Crossing streams, rivers, rocks, logs you name it we crossed it and at a fast pace! I really cannot describe how hot it was I never knew you could sweat from your legs!
Out prayers were answered the heavens opened!!it rained and rained and rained some more. Duen spent the next 2 hours falling over in the mud it was quite embarrassing really : )
Anyways the last hour I swear I had a asthma attack it was all uphill not only that the jungle the was a giant mud slide!
We arrived late afternoon at one of the hill tribes camp, our room (have a look at the pics)was a simple wooden hut with a roll mat and mossie net. The toilet was outside and the you washed behind a sheet of metal!!
I cant deal with this I said to dean...Dean gave me a comforting hug and said "this is what travellings all about babe" yeah right I added!
I surprisely had a ok nights sleep but was rudely awoken by the rooster at 3am in the morning then 4 then 5.We woke up had breakfast which was fredh fruit from the trees and set of for a 3 hour trek to our next camp for the night.
In no way can I say it was easy because it was so hot, but compared to yesterdays hike it was a doddle....There was some beautiful views as you can see from the pics. We stopped for lunch at another little random hut in the middle of the jungle and had noodles for lunch which was quite good, I hadnt eaten anything apart from the 2 spoonfuls of rice at yesterdays lunch so I was pretty hungary.Dean was tucking into his second bowl.
We arrived at our second nights c amp around 2ish in the afternoon, wow was all we could say right in front of us was the most amazing waterfall, we rushed to our huts(we all had our own tonight whuich was pretty cool as the night before we all had to share) got straight into our swim stuff and headed for it. The water was cool clean and pretty clear and behing it was a cove with sand. in true Em and Dean style we got 2 beers cracked them open and sat under the waterfall for our hour.....Heaven x
That evening was a laugh we made some pretty good friends on the trek who were hopefully gonna meet up with in the southern islands. All us girls spent the night panicing about insects and bugs (this was after we had seen 2 large spiders, 2 snakes, cockroches, mossies, flying things!) we spent the night drinking by candle light playing cards and tricks. In bed my 10pme and Dean had a lovely nights sleep..zzzz.
Next day we set of early in search for elephants!! The walk was the most enjoyable and again we saw some breath taking views. After a hours walking heading out of the jungle was was picked up and taken by truck to a elephant camp ( I said to dean I felt pretty lazy after only a hours walk!)
The elephants was amazing, there jsut beautiful in everyway which is really hard to describe until you see them.
Me and Dean got the most stubborn one, and after half way round the elephant stopped. He wanted us to buy some sugar cane of one of the people wee had already fed it one bunch of bananas so I said no and the bludy thing reared up and wouldnt move!!20 bahts later and a bunch of sugar cane we was off!!
After the elephants we spent the afternoon bamboo rafting which was fab, unfornantly no pics and we didnt want to risk taking the camera!
We headed back to BMP (Our hostel) feeling very amazed and bewildered by it all.
We are still nursing mossie and ants bites but we have to say it is one of the biggest achievements of our lives and were so glad we done it x.
Hope you all enjoyed the blog and pics next destination is down south to the islands, will update you all soon.
Lots of Love
Em and Dean
