Hey friends!
Hola from Venezuela! We're currently chilling in the National Park Morrocoy in Venezuela after spending a wonderful few days in Salvador, Brazil, incidentally, around the time of my birthday! We had a great time exploring Pelourinho - the historic district of Salvador. It's got a great atmosphere and whilst we were there, our first evening just so happened to be a music festival public holiday, so everyone was out on the streets dancing, drinking and making music! Fantastic! Chris and I though, as pretty much the only blondies in Salvador did notice at one point, we were bobbing and salsa-ing in a square and were literally the ONLY white people around - like two flashing beacons of white blondness! No one gave us a second look though and it had actually taken us around 30 minutes to notice our relative whiteness, probably due to the general benevolent and celebratory atmosphere! Our hotel was amazing and perfectly located right in the heart of the historic centre. We had a beautifully romantic room complete with four-poster bed and an amazing surprise from my Mum and Dad of birthday cake, wine and flowers waiting for us upon our arrival. My amazing and thoughtful Mum had primed up possibly every member of staff of the hotel that it was my birthday and that Chris and I should receive extra special treatment! So much so, that when our taxi from the airport pulls up at the top of the road from the hotel at 1am, the receptionist comes running out into the middle of the road to greet us! "Emma! Miss Martin! It is your birthday!! We know this, we know this!" He shouts, racing towards the taxi to help us with our bags and hugs us as if we are long lost relatives! Incredible.
To be honest, we spent our time in Salvador very leisurely, relaxing, enjoying soaking up the atmosphere and generally being pampered by our hotel staff! For my birthday Chris had spoiled me with a new state of the art scuba diving gadget, jewellery, chocolates and champagne!! In the evening we went to a Capoeira and other traditional dance show and then for a Churasco dinner. So really... what more could a girl want?! Overall it was an amazing few days and we both felt re-energised for some hardcore Caribbean beach action in Venezuela!
I hope you like the pics from Salvador and I'm looking forward to showing you some of the sites of the Venezuelan Caribbean! Lots of love, Em and Chris xxxx

Lin (Mum) We couldn't have organised the surprises for you without the co-operation of the wonderful staff, who just couldn't do enough for us, to help make your birthday perfect. Ana was so patient and helpful, especially after my first, very roughly translated portuguese email asking for help, which prompted a lovely reply from her in very good English, gently suggesting that I write in English next time if it was easier for me !!!! Bless her. Just a real shame the birthday cards didn't arrive !!! Hope they catch up with you soon. The photos are superb, what a truly wonderfully pretty place. How lucky were you to have your birthday there?? Loads of Love XOXOX
Selina Hi Emma, You have an amazing Mum - I fear, Christo has never been so lucky....don't think that will change either! But I do have alittle something up my sleeve. We returned from Vancouver early this morning - so am struggling to keep awake - I have hopes of trying to emulate you with your blog and your phots - in the fllness of time - but I fear I am not so clever as you two computer whizzos - but I will try! Love to you both, Mum xxx
