Hey friends!
I hope you enjoyed Chris' rave review of Rio! We did love that place and were almost sad to leave for the Pantanal, however, we both absolutely loved our experiences at the Pantanal too, albeit for a totally different scope of reasons. We saw literally hundreds of varieties of tropical birds which our guide, Carlos, devotedly ticked off on a checklist. We learnt a lot about the climate and biodiversity at, arguably, one of the richest eco-systems in the world. We also enjoyed another horse trek, a jeep safari, which ran quite a way into the night, and some piranha fishing! I'd like to mention my success at the latter, catching a record 7 piranhas in only a mere 30 minutes of fishing, for which, Carlos nicknamed me "the fishing machine!" Yipee! Chris, heartbroken at being beaten by a girl argues that he was fishing in the shadow of the boat... Uh-huh. No more to be said on that excuse! After our, (well, my!) successful fishing expedition, we headed to a popular hangout for the local caimans (alligators) to provide a free treat in exchange for some photos. The caiman loved the fish and did pose for some great photos - please check them out! Whilst feeding the caimans, Chris decides to inch closer to one particularly confident caiman, who in return unexpectedly begins to stalk him! "This one's getting a bit close!" Chris comments to Carlos, who replies, whilst getting to his feet and backing away from the scene, "He thinks you have fish." Noting Carlos' retreat, Chris raises his voice a little and, turning to the caiman, insists: "I have no fish! It's a camera! I HAVE NO FISH!!" Carlos bursts out laughing, which of course, starts me off! The caiman suddenly realises we're nuts and stops dead in his tracks, surprised at the crazy laughter! Actually, after mentioning our fabulous guide, Carlos, I have to also mention a further additional name for Chris, courtesy of said guide... "Eric!" We have absolutely no idea where this came from and as he intermittently exchanged 'Eric' for 'Chris' we never bothered to correct him, and of course, the funniest moment came when he introduces us to another British couple as "Erica and Emma!" Notably annunciating the "a" in "Erica." Classic.
I shall keep this blog entry relatively short, as, still on the hunt for bigger and uglier wildlife, our next stop is the Amazon rainforest, which will no doubt encompass even more grizzly stories! - Chris can tell you those, I think I may have fallen into a bubbling, rambling, nervous wreck by then! Ha!
Lots and lots of love to you all, and hope all is very well back home. Take care and hope to catch up soon. Em and Eric... errrr, I mean Chris! xxxx

ayla omg excellent! Beating chris at fishing and him sulking made me chuckle (similar issue the other day with ian, I beat him 3x in a row at Battleships, he was not impressed. Not as exciting as piranha fishing, but the boy's competitive attitude is still there no matter what!) And then Chris shouting at the caimans "explaining" that he doesn't have fish, like the caiman would understand English, that made me laugh out loud! and chris you poor thing, seems you've been called every name other than CHRIS!! Love it, keep up the blogs, they're amazing!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
