We flew into Cairns at 4.40am, theres a 2 hour time difference, but it didnt really affect us!, we got the city transfer bus to Gilligans, the hostel we were staying at, it was huge, by far the biggest hostel we have stayed in yet, there tv was a projection screen the size of the cinema! massive! When we got there we slept on the sofas as u cant check into the rooms until 2pm, we just chilled and caught up on our sleep for the rest of the day. next day we went down to the Espande at the sea front to check out the lagoon, which is a glorified sea water swimming pool.
We did a day trip up top Kuranda, we caught a mini bus from the bus station for tyhe bargain price of $3, he stopped off halfway up the hills to let us take a few photos of the city. Kuranda is just a small village, which is basically there for tourists only, we had a few hours to kill so we checked the shops out and had a walk round the heritage markets, before catchin the skyrail back. the Skyrail was 4.7miles long and took us over the rainforest canopy. we stopped at Barron Falls where you could see the falls, river and gorge, then at Red Peak we had the chance to do the boardwalk through the rainforest. At the bottom of the rail we caught the bus back to Cairns.
We were up early the next day as we had to catch the Tropic Explorer bus to Daintree. we had a river cruise along it to spot some crocs, we were quite lucky that we saw a baby croc and a 2m croc swimming in the river, as we were told we werent going to see anything, as it wasnt the right conditions for the crocs. we got back onto the bus and headed up to Wulu Wugirriga lookout point, from here you could see the island where Steve Irwin got stung by the stinger, on the Low isles. we went for a boardwalk through the rainforest as well, just before bering dropped off at the beach house hostel we stayed at for the night. the hostel itself was wicked, was in the middle of the rainforest right on the beach. we got to stay in chalert style huts which were quite cool, apart from the terrential rain that went on for hours and woke us all up!! Next stop was Mossmon gorge which was awseome def the best part of the trip. it was a natural swimming area, only trouble was the incredibly strong current, which nearly drowned me!! much to the amusement of the girls!!! not funny...... we stayed at Port Douglas for the last night of our trip at Parrot fish lodge, the town itself was quite a sleepy town though, not much happening. we spent the day chilling at the pool, waiting for the bus back to Cairns.
got back to Carins wqith a few days to spare, so that we would all be frest for our PADI open water course, which is quite exciting......we're just hoping that we can pass the medica!! hopefully that will ber happening on Tuesday, its a 5 day course and 2 nights 3 days of that are spent living on the boat on the reef, which will be wkd!
